  1. 1. Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry : Exploring the Limits of Different Sample Preparation Strategies

    Author : Barbro Kollander; Jean Pettersson; Marit Andersson; Jonas Bergquist; Grethe Wibetoe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multi element analysis; trace element; ICP-AES; inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectromtery; water analysis; liver analysis; non digested samples; medical samples; biological samples; samples from biopsies and autopsies; mice organ; fast analysis; internal standard; preconcentration; matrix elimination; Cu; Zn; Mn; Co; Pb; Cd; Mg; Ca; Fe; Ni; Cr; S; P; K; Al; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes two different sample preparation strategies for inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES), and their ability regarding multi element quantification in complex samples. Sensitivity, repeatability, reproducibility and accuracy were investigated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Hygiene aspects of the biogas process with emphasis on spore-forming bacteria

    Author : Elisabeth Bagge; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Biogas is a renewable source of energy which can be obtained from processing of biowaste. The digested residues can be used as fertiliser. Biowaste intended for biogas production contains pathogenic micro-organisms. A pre-pasteurisation step at 70°C for 60 min before anaerobic digestion reduces non spore-forming bacteria such as Salmonella spp. READ MORE

  3. 3. Processing of berries – Effects on functionality, stability and bioactivity of anthocyanins

    Author : Gabriel Barbosa; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; berries; powder; hot air and microwave drying; osmotic dehydration; press cake; edible coating; anthocyanins; gastrointestinal in vitro digestion; polyphenols; pulsed electric field; oxidative stress; yeast;

    Abstract : Berries are rich natural sources of anthocyanins, water-soluble pigments in plants that have been linked to beneficial effects against chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases. However, anthocyanins as well as other polyphenolic compounds are often sensitive to degradation during processing, storage and digestion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mobile phosphorus in lake sediments, sludge and soil : A catchment perspective

    Author : Emil Rydin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; limnologi; Limnology;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P), a key element in lake primary production and eutrophication, is accumulating in agricultural soil, urban landfills and lake sediments. This accumulation increases the risk for non-point losses of P to ground- and surface waters. READ MORE

  5. 5. Sample preparation and mass spectrometry in proteome studies

    Author : Daniel Hirschberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Proteome studies aim to link gene to function. Instead of screening for function in a specific protein as in classical protein chemistry, proteins are now screened against a specific phenotype, disease or metabolic state. READ MORE
