  1. 1. Noninvasive assessment of cerebral circulation before, during and after carotid surgery

    Author : Helene Zachrisson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal carotid artery disease; cerebrovascular hemodynamics; Carotid thrombendarterectomy; Duplex ultrasound; transcranial Doppler; Internal carotid artery disease;

    Abstract : Non-invasive ultrasound investigations were evaluated in patients with carotid artery stenosis in comparison with radiological disease gradations and perioperative blood pressure measurements. The aim was to assess cerebrovascular hemodynamics before, during and after carotid thrombendarterectomy (CEA) in relation to the clinical outcome of the surgical intervention. READ MORE

  2. 2. Assessment of Renal Physiology Using Functional MRI

    Author : Per Eckerbom; Per Liss; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Jarl Jakobsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney; Renal; MRI; Phase contrast; ASL; BOLD; DWI; T1; COVID-19; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Abstract : Kidney injury is a major cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world, leading to substantial individual suffering and to a heavy financial burden for the society. A large number of common conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune diseases and infections are highly associated with kidney injury. READ MORE

  3. 3. The impression technique for assessment of tissue oedema : instrumentation, evaluation and applications

    Author : Olof Lindahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medical Engineering for Healthcare;

    Abstract : An instrument for clinical noninvasive assessment of tissue oedema based on an impression method was developed. The method measures and evaluates the decaying force, due to translocation of tissue fluid, during mechanical compression of any site of tissue. We applied the impression method on physical models, animal models, and patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Noninvasive Evaluation of Myocardial Ischemia and Left Ventricular Function

    Author : Eva Maret; Jan Ohlsson; Eva Nylander; Anders Waldenström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was, following the path of the ischemic cascade, to evaluate the feasibility of some new non-invasive techniques for the detection of myocardial ischemia, the extent of infarcted myocardium, and for the quantification of systolic left ventricular function.Reduced longitudinal myocardial velocity and displacement may be early signs of ischemia. 5. 5. Tear Secretory IgA: A Noninvasive Biomarker of Mucosal Immune Competence

    Author : Helen Hanstock; Neil Walsh; Michael Gleeson; Bangor University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Since early studies investigated the influence of exercise on salivary secretory IgA(SIgA) in the 1980s, there has been demand for non-invasive biomarkers capableof monitoring the immune response to exercise, training and stress, and provideinsight into whether such stressors may influence susceptibility to URTI. In spiteof >30 years of research and ~200 original articles investigating a multitude ofcandidate markers, this tool remains elusive. READ MORE
