  1. 1. Modelling the system Cr-Fe-Ni-Te via the CALPHAD method, DFT and experiments : for fast nuclear reactor applications

    Author : Carl-Magnus Arvhult; Malin Selleby; Jean-Marc Joubert; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Phase diagrams; Calphad; thermodynamics; microscopy; XRD; thermal analysis; phase transitions; nuclear materials; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : In the pursuit of safer, more environmentally friendly and sustainable forms of energy production for our ever growing demands, a type of nuclear reactor cooled by liquid metal instead of water is under development. Specific to this type of reactor are special forms of corrosion of the material that encapsulates the fuel pins in the reactor core, called Fuel-Clad Chemical Interaction (FCCI) or Fission Product-induced Liquid Metal Embrittlement (FPLME). 2. 2. Internal Dosimetry in Nuclear Fuel Fabrication : Occupational Exposure to Uranium Aerosols

    Author : Edvin Hansson; Mats Eriksson; Håkan Pettersson; Per Roos; Michael Sandborg; Bastian Breustedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Uranium; Aerosol; Internal; Dose; Nuclear;

    Abstract : The production of nuclear fuel can be associated with occupational exposure to ionizing radiation from radioactive decay of uranium. Such exposure must be sufficiently low and radiation doses adequately determined. Radiation doses from internal exposure, i.e. READ MORE

  3. 3. Physical Characterization of Actinide Particles - A Study on Novel Techniques for Radiological and Nuclear Safeguard Investigations

    Author : Ylva Ranebo; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; plutonium oxide particles; secondary ion mass spectrometry; uranium oxide particles; hot particles; vibrating orifice aerosol generator; scanning electron microscopy; nuclear safeguards;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a study of advanced analytical techniques, for the characterization of actinide particles originating from the non-peaceful use of nuclear technology and from international inspections of the nuclear fuel cycle associated with non-proliferation agreements. The thesis is based on five papers, which will be referred to by Paper I-V in the text. READ MORE

  5. 5. Theoretical modeling of scanning tunneling microscopy

    Author : Alexander Gustafsson; Magnus Paulsson; Jorge Iribas Cerdá; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Scanning tunneling microscopy; Computational models; Quantum tunneling; Green s functions; Density functional theory; Condensed Matter Physics; Kondenserade materians fysik;

    Abstract : The main body of this thesis describes how to calculate scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) images from first-principles methods. The theory is based on localized orbital density functional theory (DFT), whose limitations for large-vacuum STM models are resolved by propagating localized-basis wave functions close to the surface into the vacuum region in real space.
