  1. 1. Elastic properties and phase stability of shape memory alloys from first-principles theory

    Author : Chun-Mei Li; Levente Vitos; Denis Music; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Construction materials; Konstruktionsmaterial;

    Abstract : Ni-Mn-Ga and In-Tl are two examples of shape memory alloys. Their shape memory effect is controlled by the martensitic transformation from the high temperature cubic phase to the low temperature tetragonal phase. Experimentally, it was found that the martensitic transformation, related to the elastic properties, is highly composition-dependent. READ MORE

  2. 2. An animal without an animal within : investigating the identities of pet keeping

    Author : David Redmalm; Ylva Uggla; Tora Holmberg; Hanna Bertilsson-Rosqvist; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; animal studies; animality; anomalies; companion animals; Michel Foucault; Donna Haraway; human-animal studies; materialsemiotics; pets; posthumanism; Sociologi; Sociology;

    Abstract : If the human is an animal without an animal within—a creature that has transcended the animal condition—what is a pet? This creature balancing on the border between nature and culture, simultaneously included in and excluded from a human “we”, is the focus of this thesis. The thesis analyzes the discourses and normative frameworks structuring the meaning of pets in people’s lives. READ MORE

  3. 3. Comparative genomics of the genus Mycobacterium : Genome evolution, phylogeny and diversity

    Author : Phani Rama Krishna Behra; Leif Kirsebom; Bengt Persson; Mikael Rhen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mycobacterial genomes; core gene phylogeny; tRNA and non-coding RNA; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : The genus Mycobacterium includes more than 190 species, and many cause severe diseases such as tuberculosis and leprosy. According to the "World Health Organization", in year 2019 alone, 10 million people developed TB, and 1.4 million died. READ MORE

  4. 4. Service Quality in Refurbishment: Craftsman-User Interaction

    Author : Mats G. Holm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building refurbishment; contractor reputation; craftsman-user interaction; service quality;

    Abstract : Many companies in various lines of business have long recognized service quality as a key to success and long-term survival. Nevertheless, it is only recently that service quality has come into focus in the construction industry. READ MORE

  5. 5. The Epigenetics of Gene Transcription and Higher Order Chromatin Conformation

    Author : Vijay Kumar Tiwari; Rolf Ohlsson; Terumi Kohwi-Shigematsu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; DNA-protein interactions; Nuclear organization; Transcriptional regulation; Higher order chromatin conformations; Epigenetic reprogramming; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : It is becoming increasingly clear that long-range control of gene expression is mediated through direct physical interactions between genes and regulatory elements, either intra- or interchromosomally. In addition to transcriptional initiation, formation of active chromatin hubs seem to be crucial for increased transcriptional efficiency as well as insulation from neighbouring heterochromatic environment.
