  1. 1. Investigation of immunological preconditions in MS patients "MS immunopathic trait"

    Author : Sara Haghighi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : multiple sclerosis; siblings; CSF; oligoclonal; cytokine; sulfatide; genetics; trait;

    Abstract : We examined 47 MS patients, 47 healthy siblings and 50 healthy unrelated individuals with blood and CSF analysis and found that 19 % (9/47) of healthy siblings of clinically definite multiple sclerosis patients had an intrathecal immunological reaction to ¡Ý 2 CSF-enriched OCB, in contrast to 4% (2/50) of the unrelated healthy controls. We termed this condition ¡°MS immunopathic trait¡±. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of T cells in health and disease : receptor usage and cytokine expression

    Author : Eva Halapi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : T cell receptor; oligoclonal expansion Tumour-infiltrating Iymphocyte; Ovarian carcinoma; Interleukin 10; Multiple Myeloma; Systemic vasculitis; HLD DR0401*CDR3; HIV-I;

    Abstract : T Iymphocytes are crucial components for the initiation and maintenance of an immune response. To identify and characterize different T cells and their antigen specific receptors has important bearing for the understanding of underlying mechanisms in immunopathological processes and also to allow for the design of therapeutic therapies to be used for modulation of immune responses. 3. 3. Oncogenic mechanisms of AIDS-related neoplasia in humans and SIV infected monkeys

    Author : Esmeralda Castaños-Vélez; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : immunosuppression; AIDS; lymphoma; Kaposi s sarcoma; EBV HVMF-1; HHV8; cell proliferation; apoptosis; animal model;

    Abstract : Patients with AIDS or immunosuppressive post-transplant therapy are at high risk to develop Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) and malignant lymphoma that represent clinically lethal complications. Lymphomagenesis in simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) infected cynomolgus monkeys has been shown to be highly similar to lymphomagenesis in immunosuppressed patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Reconstitution of the B-cell repertoire following allogeneic bone marrow transplantation

    Keywords : B cell repertoire allogeneic bone marrow transplantation immune reconstitution immunoglobulin genes serum immunoglobulin;

    Abstract : Allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) is an established therapy for patients with a variety of haematological malignancies. Patients undergoing BMT often suffer from severe infections that can be partly explained by humoral immune deficiency. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genetic Characterization and Identification of Novel Treatment Targets in Anaplastic Thyroid Carcinoma

    Author : Naveen Ravi; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaplastic thyroid cancer; copy number alterations; somatic mutations; mutational signatures; DNA methylation analysis; Gene expression analysis;

    Abstract : Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) is a rare and highly aggressive thyroid malignancy, usually resistant to conventional therapeutic strategies. The prognosis of ATC is extremely poor with a median survival rate of 6 months. Current treatment therapy includes surgical resection in combination with external radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
