1. Phase Modulation Techniques for On-Off Keying in Optical Fibre Transmission
Abstract : Increasing the channel bit rate is an efficient way to upgrade traffic capacity in installed transmission links. At bit rates of the order of 40 Gb/s, on-off keying (OOK) transmission becomes severely impaired by non-linear effects especially Intra-channel Four-Wave Mixing (IFWM) which limit the power at which the signal can be transmitted, and ultimately the transmission distance. 2. Millimeter-Wave Impulse Radio
Abstract : This thesis investigates the opportunity of wireless multi-gigabit per second communication at the millimeter-wave (mmW) frequencies around 60 GHz by using impulse radio and nanoelectronics. Today most wireless communication take place in the microwave region, where several different systems and applications are crowding the narrow-band channels. READ MORE

3. Multilevel modulation in short-range optical links
Abstract : Power and cost efficient short-range optical links are one of the technologies enabling large scale high-performance computers and data centers. Such links typically use directly modulated vertical cavity surface emitting lasers, multi-mode fiber, direct detection and on-off keying (OOK) modulation. READ MORE

4. Multilevel Modulation and Transmission in VCSEL-based Short-range Fiber Optic Links
Abstract : As the demand for ever higher throughput short-range optical links is growing, research and industry associations have shown increased interest in multilevel modulation formats, such as the four leveled pulse amplitude modulation, referred to as 4-PAM. As on-off keying (OOK) persists to be the choice for low latency applications, for example high performance computing, datacenter operators see 4-PAM as the next format to succeed current OOK-based optical interconnects.
