  1. 1. A Systemic Approach Framework for Operational Risk : – SAFOR –

    Author : Anna-Maria Kessler; Love Ekenberg; Mats Danielson; Tara Baidya; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; operational risk; systems thinking; decision analysis; interval forecasts; Computer and systems science; Data- och systemvetenskap; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis attempts to describe the essential systems features of a complex real-world domain of operational risk (OR) in banking, by employing general systems theory (GST) as the guiding method. An implementational framework (SAFOR) is presented for operational risk management (ORM), the target of which is to manage and mitigate the risk-around-loss causes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Innovation under pressure : Reclaiming the micro-level exploration space

    Author : Katarina Lund Stetler; Mats Magnusson; Jens Hemphälä; Salomo Sören; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ambidexterity; exploration; exploitation; creativity; innovation; micro-level exploration space; operational level; operations; operational effectiveness; employee; lean; lean thinking; process management; streamlining; flow; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Research & Development (R&D) departments are becoming increasingly structured and routine-based, with tight schedules and daily follow-ups. This way of working stems from increased demands for delivering products to customers quickly and with high quality at a low price. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Facet Model of the Logical Operational Structures of Piaget's Theory : Guttman's Facet Design applied to Piaget's Theory

    Author : Barbro Bergling; Siv Fischbein; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; facet design; Piaget; operational thinking; Rasch; partial credit model; hierarchical model; psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : This thesis explored whether the complex structure of Piaget's theory of operational thinking could be synthesized into a facet model by means of facet design. The aims were: (1) to deduce from detailed conceptual analyses of 12 of Piaget's classical experiments the essential parts of the operational structures (Study I); (2) to explore the internal structure of his constructs in terms of a mapping sentence (Study II); (3) to study the hierarchical structure of the interrelationships between the constructs (Study III); and (4) to apply the facet model in the development of test items (Study II and IV). 4. 4. Simulation Modelling of a Shift to Service-Based Offerings : Resource efficiency and operational implications in the context of the circular economy

    Author : Raphael Wasserbaur; Tomohiko Sakao; Erik Sundin; Steve Evans; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; resource efficiency; resource effectiveness; circular economy CE ; sociotechnical systems; systems thinking; simulation; product service system PSS ; system dynamics;

    Abstract : The unsustainable levels of resource use and emissions of our economies and their threat to future generations are core issues of our time. The circular economy (CE) conceptualises a different type of economy that is restorative and regenerative by design and aims to keep products, components and materials at their highest utility and value at all times, distinguishing between technical and biological cycles. 5. 5. Decision making in construction projects

    Author : Eija Meriläinen; Elina Mäkelä; Karlos Artto; Finland Esbo Aalto University; []
    Keywords : SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; construction project; decision; decision making; complexity; systems thinking;

    Abstract : The thesis draws the focus to the construction project organization and the decisions that are taken to advance the project towards its purpose. Decisions are seen as thrusts towards the purpose, the client's peak in the fitness landscape, and they are taken to cross the chasm between the current and the goal state.
