  1. 1. Bio-inspired retinal optic flow perception in robotic navigation

    Author : Björnborg Nguyen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; robotic navigation; active fixation; visual perception; bionics; Retinal optic flow fields; gazing; optic flow; retinal flow path;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the bio-inspired visual perception of motion with emphasis on locomotion targeting robotic systems. By continuously registering moving visual features in the human retina, a sensation of a visual flow cue is created. An interpretation of visual flow cues forms a low-level motion perception more known as retinal optic flow. READ MORE

  2. 2. Visual Flow Display for Pilot Spatial Orientation

    Author : Lars Eriksson; Claes von Hofsten; David Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Optic flow; visual flow; peripheral vision; spatial orientation; spatial disorientation; postural control; somatogravic illusion; human centrifuge; flight displays; head-up display; head-mounted display; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Pilot spatial disorientation (SD) is a significant cause of incidents and fatal accidents in aviation. The pilot is susceptible to SD especially in low visibility when the visual system is deprived of information from outside the cockpit. READ MORE

  3. 3. Retinal glucose metabolism and blood flow : Effects of photic stimulation

    Author : Lin Wang; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; blood flow; darkness; flicker; glucose oxidation; glycolysis; lactate; light; nitric oxide; optic nerve; retina; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : Retinal glucose metabolism was investigated under different light conditions in cats,pigs and rabbits. Glycolysis and glucose oxidation in the outer and inner parts of theretina were assessed by determining arteriovenous concentration differences foroxygen, glucose and lactate, as well as local blood flow. 4. 4. Go with the flow : visually mediated flight control in bumblebees

    Author : Nellie Linander; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight; Insect; vision; Bombus terrestris; flight control; optic flow; centring; flight speed; height; viewing angle; learning flight;

    Abstract : Despite their small brains and tiny eyes, flying insects are capable of detecting and avoiding collisions with moving obstacles, and with remarkable precision they navigate through environments of different complexity. For this thesis, I have investigated how bumblebees use the pattern of apparent image motion that is generated in their eyes as they move through the world (known as optic flow), in order to control flight. 5. 5. Fiber-optic sensors for blood flow and respiration rate measurements

    Author : Erik Stenow; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Optical fibers and fiber-optic sensors have in the last century been subjects for a great interest especially in industry and communication but also in medicine. Optical fibers are used in endoscopes and as light guides for laser surgery. READ MORE
