    Abstract : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 2. 2. Advances in Holographic Optical Trapping

    Author : Martin Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical tweezers; Holographic optical trapping; Optical force measurement; Spatial light modulators; Holographic beam steering; Liquid crystals;

    Abstract : Holographic optical trapping (HOT) is a technique for non-invasive dynamic anipulation of multiple microscopic objects, which has been used for many applications in the life sciences during the past decade. The technique uses holographic beam steering with a spatial light modulator (SLM) to direct light to the desired positions of optical traps. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optical Monitoring of Cerebral Microcirculation

    Author : Peter Rejmstad; Karin Wårdell; Göran Salerud; Neda Haj-Hosseini; Kerstin Ramser; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optical monitoring; cerebral microcirculation; diffuse reflectance spectroswcopy DRS ; laser Doppler flowmetry LDF ;

    Abstract : The cerebral microcirculation consists of a complex network of small blood vessels that support nerve cells with oxygen and nutrition. The blood flow and oxygen delivery in the microcirculatory blood vessels are regulated through mechanisms which may be influenced or impaired by disease or brain damage resulting from conditions such as brain tumors, traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). 4. 4. Characterization of domain switching and optical damage properties in ferroelectrics

    Author : Junji Hirohashi; Fredrik Laurell; Ady Arie; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phase matching; ferroelectric domains; stoichiometric LiNbO3; stoichiometric LiTaO3; KTiOPO4; KNbO3; polarization switching; periodic electric field poling; optical damages; Optical physics; Optisk fysik;

    Abstract : Nonlinear optical frequency conversion is one of the most important key techniques in order to obtain lasers with wavelengths targeted for specific applications. In order to realize efficient and tailored lasers, the quasi-phase-matching (QPM) approach using periodically-poled ferroelectric crystals is getting increasingly important. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optical Imaging and Spectroscopy of Metal Nanostructures

    Author : Juris Prikulis; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; nanoparticles; surface plasmon resonance; surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy; near-field optical microscopy; optical tweezers;

    Abstract : Noble metal structures with size in the sub 100 nm range exhibit extraordinary optical properties due to collective oscillations of conduction electrons, the surface plasmon resonances (SPR). The most remarkable feature of these structures is the ability to redistribute electromagnetic radiation and concentrate strong fields near the surface. READ MORE
