  1. 1. Frustrated magnetism in icosahedral structures : The influence of order-disorder in quasicrystals and approximant crystals

    Author : Fernand Denoel; Roland Mathieu; Marc de Boissieu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; quasicrystals; approximant crystals; spin glasses; SQUID magnetometry; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : This work will begin with an introduction to quasicrystals (QCs) and their structure, defining the unit cell-equivalent for icosahedral quasiperiodicity: a 3D tiling based on the golden ratio and aperiodic in all three dimensions. We briefly present the cut-and-project method used to generate QCs from a higher dimension hypercrystal, and how to build the 3D Penrose tilings, composed of the two golden rhombohedra. READ MORE

  2. 2. Symmetry, Disorder and the Josephson Effect in d-Wave Superconductors

    Author : Fabian Wenger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; density of states; Josephson effect; high-Tc; symmetry; cuprate; disorder; d-wave; superconductor; order parameter;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on aspects of symmetry, disorder and the Josephson effect in d-wave superconductors which are generically characterized by sign changes of the gap function .DELTA.k in certain directions with respect to the underlying crystal lattice. READ MORE

  3. 3. From Disorder to Order : Extracting clinical findings from unstructured text

    Author : Maria Skeppstedt; Hercules Dalianis; Gunnar Nilsson; Beáta Megyesi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Text mining; named entity recognition; clinical language processing; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : Medical disorders and findings are examples of important information in health record text. Through developing methods for automatically extracting these entities from the health record text, the possibility of making use of the information by automatic computerised processes increases. 4. 4. Body Dysmorphic Disorder : Capturing a prevalent but under-recognized disorder

    Author : Sabina Brohede; Klaas Wijma; Barbro Wijma; Gun Wingren; Yvonne Wyon; Maria Tillfors; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : BackgroundIndividuals with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) are highly distressed due to defects they perceive in their physical appearance that are not noticeable to others. The condition often leads to impaired functioning in relationships, socialization, and intimacy and a decreased ability to function in work, school, or other daily activities. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transport phenomena in quantum wells and wires in presence of disorder and interactions

    Author : Valeria Vettchinkina; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; time-dependent density-functional theory; disorder; electron correlation; Lowdimensional semiconducting systems; transport phenomena; Fysicumarkivet F:2012:Vettchinkina;

    Abstract : Present-day electronics employ circuits of smaller and smaller dimensions, and today the length scales are so small that the laws of physics which rule micro-cosmos, quantum mechanics, become directly important. This thesis reports on theoretical work on electron transport in different nanostructures. READ MORE
