1. Organic Azides : Functional Molecules and Materials
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis stems from the chemistry of the azido group, and more specifically from the unique reactivity of perfluorinated aromatic azides and how to use this reactivity to access new types of molecules to enable new applications in asymmetric synthesis and materials. In the first section of this thesis, a photoactivatable fluorescence probe is presented, where the non-luminescent azide was activated via a UV-light-promoted intramolecular N–H insertion reaction forming a fluorescence emitter. 2. Synthesis of Organic Chromophores for Dye Sensitized Solar Cells
Abstract : This thesis is divided into four parts with organic chromophores for dye sensitized solar cells as the common feature and an introduction with general concepts of the dye sensitized solar cells. The first part of the thesis describes the development of an efficient organic chromophore for dye sensitized solar cells. READ MORE

3. Organic Reactions i Organised Media
Abstract : A common problem in synthetic organic chemistry is reactant incompatibility between lipophilic organic compounds and inorganic salts. The thesis reports an investigation of some organic reactions, involving incompatible substrate and nucleophile, performed in liquid crystalline phases and also in slurries of mesoporous materials with different symmetry. 4. Pilicides and Curlicides : Design, synthesis, and evaluation of novel antibacterial agents targeting bacterial virulence
Abstract : New strategies are needed to counter the growing problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. One such strategy is to design compounds that target bacterial virulence, which could work separately or in concert with conventional bacteriostatic or bactericidal antibiotics. READ MORE

5. Structure-Based Design and Synthesis of Protease Inhibitors Using Cycloalkenes as Proline Bioisosteres and Combinatorial Syntheses of a Targeted Library
Abstract : Structure-based drug design and combinatorial chemistry play important roles in the search for new drugs, and both these elements of medicinal chemistry were included in the present studies. This thesis outlines the synthesis of protease inhibitors against thrombin and the HCV NS3 protease, as well as the synthesis of a combinatorial library using solid phase chemistry. READ MORE
