  1. 1. Tilling Nature - Harvesting Culture. Exploring Images of the Human Being in the Transition to Agriculture

    Author : Elisabeth Rudebeck; Arkeologi; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; archaeological theory; origins of agriculture; gender; primitivism; human nature; modernism; Archaeology; Arkeologi;

    Abstract : Archaeology is about human beings – in the present and in the past. When we concern ourselves with archaeology we have to imagine prehistoric human beings thinking, feeling and acting. This imagining is the very precondition for the creation of meaning from the fragments and traces of human lives that we choose as our data. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Lure of Origins : An Inquiry into Human-Environmental Relations, Focused on the ”Neolithization” of Sweden

    Abstract : The purpose of this dissertation is to contribute to the discussion of the deeper meaning, in our contemporary context, of the ”neolithization” of Sweden. The basis for the investigation is twofold: * a critical examination of recent research reports dealing mostly with the Early Neolithic of (Middle) Sweden which shows, inter alia, that ”agriculture” was of marginal importance for a very long time from about 4000 BC onwards, while, at the same time, the idea of ”the transition to farming” dominates discourse. 3. 3. Response to wheat dwarf virus in wild and domesticated wheat : genetic resources of evolutionary and environmental origins

    Author : Jim Nygren; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Wild and domesticated plants are constantly exposed to a variety of pathogens, which may trigger an arms race in evolution of defense strategies in the plant and development of virulence in the pathogen. The outcome of the interaction depends on the intensity of reciprocal selection between the interacting species, which may vary over space and time, explained as the geographic mosaic theory of coevolution. 4. 4. Sink or source? : uncertainties in large scale model predictions of forest soil organic carbon dynamics

    Author : Carina Ortiz; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Soil organic carbon (SOC) is the largest terrestrial carbon pool and small changes in this pool may affect the global carbon balance, especially atmospheric concentration of CO2. Within the context of climate policy, the quantification of these changes is important, as pool changes may affect a country's national greenhouse gas budget. READ MORE
