  1. 1. The linear and nonlinear biomechanics of the middle ear

    Author : Thomas Wright; Martin Lesser; Viktor Beryuk; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; biomechanics; middle ear models; ossicular chain; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the biomechanics of the human middle ear, that part of the auditory system which converts sound pressure waves in air to fluid pressure waves in the cochlea. The middle ear's mechanism is analysed in four papers, three main and one supporting; in the main papers the middle ear is treated as a multi-particle, multi-rigid body ensemble possessing a variable number of degrees of freedom depending upon the case being investigated. 3. 3. Middle ear mechanics : using temporal bone experiments to improve clinical methods

    Author : Anton Rönnblom; Krister Tano; Magnus Von Unge; Mimmi Werner; Måns Eeg-Olofsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Middle ear; conductive hearing loss; ossiculoplasty; human temporal bone; Laser doppler vibrometry; malleus fracture; middle ear muscles; muscle fiber composition; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : BackgroundThe middle ear transmits and amplifies sound vibrations from the tympanic membrane via three ossicles to the inner ear. Moreover, it contains two muscles, the stapedius muscle (SM) which protects the inner ear from loud noise, and the tensor tympani (TT) whose function is still debated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Malleus fracture : experimental and clinical aspects

    Author : Anders Niklasson; Krister Tano; Magnus Von Unge; Preben Homøe; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malleus fracture middle ear human temporal bone laser doppler vibrometry; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Background: Patients with malleus fractures are described as rare in the literature. The cause of these fractures are most commonly trauma and digital manipulation of the ear canal, while in some cases the causes are unknown. READ MORE
