  1. 1. Cerebrospinal fluid infusion methods : development and validation on patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus

    Author : Nina Andersson; Anders Eklund; Karin Wårdell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Infusion test; idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus; outflow conductance; outflow resistance; intracranial pressure; cerebrospinal fluid dynamics; medical informatics; medicinsk informatik;

    Abstract : Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) infusion tests can be used to estimate the dynamic properties of the CSF system. Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is a syndrome signified by a disturbance to the CSF system, where the cause is unknown and the diagnosis is difficult to determine. READ MORE

  2. 2. The search for reversibility of Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus : Aspects on intracranial pressure measurments and CSF volume alteration

    Author : Niklas Lenfeldt; Jan Malm; Anders Eklund; Katrine Riklund-Åhlström; John D. Pickard; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus; intracranial pressure; subcortical ischemia; neuronal integrity; cortical activation.; infusion test; cerebrospinal fluid dynamics; outflow resistance; compliance; elastance; proton spectroscopy; functional MRI; external lumbar drainage; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Abstract : BACKGROUND: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is still a syndrome generating more questions than answers. Today, research focuses mainly on two areas: understanding the pathophysiology – especially how the malfunctioning CSF system affects the brain parenchyma – and finding better methods to select patients benefiting from a shunt operation. 4. 4. Noninvasive haemodynamic evaluation of aortic valve prostheses : Doppler echocardiographic studies at rest and during exercise

    Author : Maria J Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : heart valve prosthesis; aortic valve replacement; Doppler echocardiography; exercise; haemodynamics; valve resistance;

    Abstract : The present series of investigations was designed to supply information on in vivo pressure-flow relationships and to analyse the incidence of regurgitation in different heart valve prostheses in the aortic position. Patients and methods: The study population comprised 185 patients with mechanical Björk-Shiley Monostrut prostheses, 54 patients with Biocor stented porcine bioprostheses, 50 patients with extended Biocor stentless bioprostheses and 59 patients with cryopreserved aortic homografts. 5. 5. Testicular blood flow : methodological and functional studies in the rat

    Author : Jan-Erik Damber; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Different methods of measuring testicular blood flow in the rat were compared in an attempt to find an accurate method for measuring physiological testicular blood flow. It was found that both the Xenon- 133 clearance technique and the radioactive microsphere technique probably reflect true physiological blood flow in the testis. READ MORE
