1. Population size and genetic diversity of Nigerian lions (Panthera leo)
Abstract : High growth rate in human populations, agricultural developments and industrialization have impinged negatively on the natural habitats of most large carnivores, causing fragmentation, isolation and consequently reduction in population size. Lions (Panthera leo) that once roamed most parts of Southern Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North America, northern part of South America and most parts of Africa are today found only in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and at a single site in India. 2. Theoretical Studies of Two-Dimensional Magnetism and Chemical Bonding
Abstract : This thesis is divided into two parts. In the first part we study thermodynamics of the two-dimensional Heisenberg ferromagnet with dipolar interaction. This interaction breaks the conditions of the Mermin-Wagner theorem, resulting in a finite transition temperature. READ MORE

3. Ecology across Boundaries : Food web coupling among and within ecosystems
Abstract : Cross-boundary movements of energy and material are ubiquitous. Freshwater ecosystems receive nutrients, dissolved, and particulate organic matter from adjacent terrestrial ecosystems, whereas terrestrial ecosystems mainly receive prey organisms and detritus deposited by physical processes such as floods from freshwater ecosystems. 4. Exploring the heterogeneity of the hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell pool in cord blood
Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a curative treatment for a wide range of malignant and hereditary disorders. It is yet the only clinically established stem cell treatment. READ MORE

5. Conservation Genetics of the White-Tailed Eagle
Abstract : The white-tailed eagle is a formerly threatened raptor that is commonly used as a flagship and indicator species in conservation work. This thesis uses molecular genetic methods to study sex determination of nestlings, genetic variability, population structure and phylogeography of the white-tailed eagle. READ MORE
