1. Substrate water binding to the oxygen-evolving complex in photosystem II
Abstract : Oxygenic photosynthesis in plants, algae and cyanobacteria converts sunlight into chemical energy. In this process electrons are transferred from water molecules to CO2 leading to the assembly of carbohydrates, the building blocks of life. READ MORE

2. Nucleotide-binding Proteins in the Plant Thylakoid Membrane
Abstract : Life on Earth is dependent on the oxygen produced through photosynthesis. The thylakoid membrane is the site for the light-driven reactions of photosynthesis, which oxidize water and supply energy in the form of ATP, mainly for carbon fixation. The utilization of ATP in the lumenal space of the thylakoid has not been considered in the past. READ MORE

3. Reaction Mechanisms of Metalloenzymes and Synthetic Model Complexes Activating Dioxygen : A Computational study
Abstract : Quantum chemistry has nowadays become a powerful and efficient tool that can be successfully used for studies of biosystems. It is therefore possibleto model the enzyme active-site and the reactions undergoing into it, as well as obtaining quite accurate energetic profiles. READ MORE

4. Device Bonding and Antibody Binding: Developments for On-Chip Differentiation of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells into Hepatocytes
Abstract : Abstract This thesis describes the bonding optimization of a liver-on-a-chip microfluidic device for evaluation of cultured induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived definitive endoderm (DE) cells during their targeted differentiation into mature hepatocytes. Furthermore, it describes the optimization of a number of antibody assays for use during said differentiation, for the purpose of studying the cellular phenotype. READ MORE

5. Electron and Proton Transfer in Nitric Oxide Reductase : NO Binding, NO Reduction and no Pumping
Abstract : Nitric oxide reductase (NOR) from Paracoccus denitrificans catalyzes the two electronreduction of NO to N2O (2NO + 2H+ + 2e- → N2O + H2O) as part of the process ofdenitrification, the step-wise reduction of nitrate to dinitogen. The NOR-catalyzedreaction is central in the nitrogen cycle, since in this step the N=N double bond isformed. READ MORE
