  1. 1. Diffusion in Poly(vinyl alcohol) and Polyethylene as Determined by Computational Simulations and Modeling

    Author : Gunnar Karlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Molecular dynamics; simulation; modeling; polymer; poly vinyl alcohol ; polyethylene; water; oxygen; limonene; solute; diffusion; transport properties;

    Abstract : Poly(vinyl alcohol) and polyethylene polymer systems werebuilt in order to study their transport properties (diffusion).First a verification of the AMBER force field was conducted fora poly(vinyl alcohol) system built from a chain with 145repeating units. NPT-molecular dynamics simulations attemperatures between 400 and 527 K were performed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Alternative methods for analysing moisture transport in buildings : Utilisation of tracer gas and natural stable isotopes

    Author : Kjartan Gudmundsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tracer gas; water vapour permeability; diffusion; surface diffusion; isotopic analysis; deuterium; oxygen-18; fractionation; vapour barrier; transient numerical modelling of diffusion; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : New methods, based on tracer gas measurements and isotopicanalysis can be used to evaluate the moisture properties ofbuilding materials and provide the means for forensic analysisof the origins and history of excessive water in buildings, theimmediate practical consequences of which will be the abilityto improve the moisture performance of constructions. It is shown, in theory and through measurements how thewater vapour permeability of porous building materials can witha good degree of accuracy be estimated with tracer gasmeasurements that provide an efficient alternative to the cupmethod. Author : Åsa Nyflött; Magnus Lestelius; Ellen Moons; Lars Järnström; Carlsson Kvarnlöf Gunilla; Chris Bonnerup; José Maria Lagaron; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Barrier coating; Permeability; Dynamic Mass Transport; Modelling; Diffusion; Polymer; Dispersion; Kaolin; LCA; Starch; Hemicellulose; Materials Science; Materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Food packaging should ensure the safety and quality of food, minimize spoilage and provide an easy way of storing and handling it. Barrier coatings are generally used to meet the demands placed on fibre-based food packages, as these have the ability to regulate the amount of gases that can enter them. READ MORE

  5. 5. Oxygen Induced High Temperature Crack Growth in Ni-base Superalloys

    Author : Leif Viskari; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diffusion; Environmental influence; Crack growth; Atom probe tomography; Electron Microscopy; Deformation; Crack tip oxidation; Hold-time fatigue;

    Abstract : Oxygen induced crack growth is a serious concern for the performance of Ni-base superalloys. These alloys are used in gas-turbine engines where they are exposed to hightemperatures, mechanical loads and oxygen-rich environments. READ MORE
