6. Growth of parathyroid glands : genetic and functional aspects
Abstract : Ca2+ is an essential ion with a variety of important functions in the body and it is crucial that the Ca2+ levels are precisely regulated. One of the hormones regulating these processes is parathyroid hormone (PTH) secreted from the parathyroid glands. READ MORE

7. Localization and characterization of genes involved in parathyroid tumor development
Abstract : The overall goal of this thesis has been to identify new genes and characterize them regarding the involvement in parathyroid tumor development. The parathyroid glands are responsible for the control of calcium homeostasis. Parathyroid tumors usually have a benign growth pattern, with less than 1% of the tumors being malignant. READ MORE

8. Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP), calcium and human osteoblast-like cells
Abstract : Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) may cause humoral hypercalcernia of malignancy (HHM) when overproduced by malignant tumors, but is also produced in lower amounts under normophysiological conditions in practically all cell types, including osteoblasts. One of the aims of the present study was to investigate interactions between PTHrP and osteoblasts, to elucidate bone-regulating functions of PTHrP. READ MORE

9. Molecular mechanisms of tumor development in hyperparathyroidism
Abstract : Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) analysis and comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) were used in an attempt to identify recurrent chromosomal alterations in different types of parathyroid tumors. These included familial and sporadic, benign and malignant, as well as primary, irradiation associated and secondary tumors. READ MORE

10. Endocrine signaling and molecular aberrations in primary hyperparathyroidism
Abstract : Primary hyperparathyroidism is a common endocrine disorder, characterized by an inappropriate increase in serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. It is most often caused by a single benign parathyroid tumor. READ MORE
