  1. 11. A two step model for linear prediction, with connections to PLS

    Author : Ying Li; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In the thesis, we consider prediction of a univariate response variable, especially when the explanatory variables are almost collinear. A two step approach has been proposed. The first step is to summarize the information in the explanatory variables via a bilinear model with a Krylov structured design matrix. READ MORE

  2. 12. Novel variable influence on projection (VIP) methods in OPLS, O2PLS, and OnPLS models for single- and multi-block variable selection : VIPOPLS, VIPO2PLS, and MB-VIOP methods

    Author : Beatriz Galindo-Prieto; Johan Trygg; Lennart Eriksson; Paul Geladi; Olav M. Kvalheim; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Variable influence on projection; VIP; MB-VIOP; orthogonal projections to latent structures; OPLS; O2PLS; OnPLS; variable selection; variable importance in multiblock regression; Computer Science; datalogi;

    Abstract : Multivariate and multiblock data analysis involves useful methodologies for analyzing large data sets in chemistry, biology, psychology, economics, sensory science, and industrial processes; among these methodologies, partial least squares (PLS) and orthogonal projections to latent structures (OPLS®) have become popular. Due to the increasingly computerized instrumentation, a data set can consist of thousands of input variables which contain latent information valuable for research and industrial purposes. READ MORE

  3. 13. Utilization of Andean grain flours in the development of wheat flour dough

    Author : Sander Jonathan Pérez Villarroel; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Wheat; Andean grains; Amaranth; Amaranthus caudatus; Canahua; Chenopodium pallidicaule; Quinoa; Chenopodium quinoa; Dough; Substitution; Ultracentrifugation; Phase separation; Dough composition; Macroscopic separation; Freezable water; Textural properties; Compression; Uniaxial tension; Biaxial tension; Principal component analysis; Partial least square regression; Bread;

    Abstract : Bread dough was studied in relation to three Andean grain flours, quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa), amaranth (Amaranthus caudatus) and canahua (Chenopodium pallidicaule), as partial replacements for wheat flour with the perspectives of dough and breadmaking. This thesis deals with the understanding of both dough as a complex system, consisting of various water-filled polymers, and dough as a viscoelastic material, with different responses to deformations, in order to contribute to possibilities for improvements in dough analysis and development of novel products. 4. 14. Capillary electrophoresis and multivariate calibration in the analysis of natural waters

    Author : Johan Dahlén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : The aim of this work was to explore the applicability of capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) and multivariate partial least squares (PLS) regression in the analysis of organic compounds and inorganic ions in natural waters. A new CZE application was developed to analyze low molecular weight (LMW) organic acids. READ MORE

  5. 15. Carbonation for fixation of metals in municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash

    Author : Holger Ecke; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Waste Science and Technology; Avfallsteknik;

    Abstract : The waste management is in need of a reliable and economical treatment method for metals in fly ashes from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI). However, no state-of-the-art technique has gained wide acceptance yet. This Doctoral Thesis aimed at assessing the possibilities and limitations of carbonation as a stabilization method. READ MORE
