1. Liquid phase sintering of W-Ni-Fe composites : liquid penetration, agglomerate separation and tungsten particle growth
Abstract : The initial stage of liquid phase sintering, involving liquid penetration, agglomerate separation, particle spreading and growth has been investigated in experiments using tungsten heavy alloys. The particle composites used were produced by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) of pure powder mixtures of W-Ni-Fe-(Co). READ MORE

2. Angle dependent light scattering of functional nanoparticle composites
Abstract : Varies functional nanoparticles play crucial roles in energy- and optical- related applications. The incorporation of functional nanoparticles into non-absorbing polymers to form optical absorption and scattering thin films have attracted considerable interest due to a successful selection of particles and matrices, synergistic effects of separation and fixation of particles, and controllable layer thicknesses and structures. 3. Fatigue of Metal Matrix Composites
Abstract : This thesis treats the mechanical properties of discontinuously reinforced metal matrix composites, DMMCs, in general and their fatigue properties in particular. Methods of manufacture, microstructures and resulting mechanical properties of DMMCs are reviewed in the introductory part. READ MORE

4. Polyethylene – metal oxide particle nanocomposites for future HVDC cable insulation : From interface tailoring to designed performance
Abstract : Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) nanocomposites containing metal oxide nanoparticles are considered as promising candidates for insulating materials in future high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) cables. The significant improvement in dielectric properties compared with unfilled polymer is attributed to the large and active interface between the nanoparticles and the polymer. READ MORE

5. Water treatment using cryogel-based adsorbents - Targeting environmental pollutants at low concentrations
Abstract : The lack of safe, clean water is strongly linked to poverty, underdevelopment and poor health. Water is needed not only to sustain life, but to produce food and in industrial processes. Anthropogenic pollution and natural events can jeopardize access to safe water. READ MORE
