  1. 1. Particle Emissions from Ships

    Author : Maria Zetterdahl; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LNG; marine fuel; fuel sulphur content; particle emission; sulphur emission control area; aromatics; SECA; heavy fuel oil; marine diesel oil; liquefied natural gas; ship emission;

    Abstract : Since 1st of January 2015 ships operating in sulphur emission control areas (SECAs) have to use marine fuels with a fuel sulphur content less than 0.1 %m/m. This regulation forces the ship owners to make a fuel shift and use low-sulphur marine fuel oils, use alternative fuels or use scrubbers on-board their ships. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Effects of Oxygenated Fuels on DISI Engine Particle Emissions and Efficiency : Experimental investigation of the effects of oxygenated biofuels on particle emissions and engine performance

    Author : Tara Larsson; Ulf Olofsson; Terese Løvås; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biofuels; reneawable fuels; direct-injected engines; spark-ignited engines; particle emissions; engine efficiency; engine performance; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : The transport sector is one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions.Replacing fossil fuels with renewable fuels can help reduce the impact oftransportation on the climate. READ MORE

  3. 3. On Alternative Fuels for Internal Combustion Engines : A study of biodiesel, gaseous methane and methanol

    Author : Ludvig Adlercreutz; Andreas Cronhjort; Ola Stenlåås; Magnus Sjöberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gaseous methane combustion; spark ignition; single cylinder research engine; particle number; particle emissions; oil ash content; CO2; Green House Gases; engine testing; engine development; emissions; combustion chamber design; injector fouling; environmental impact; road transportation; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract :  This thesis covers some of the environmental impacts of internalcombustion engines running on alternative fuels. The focus of thestudies conveyed is the reduction of greenhouse gases and particleemissions, as these two factors are of great importance for the pathsthat road transportation is facing. READ MORE

  4. 4. Oil-related Particle Emissions from Diesel Engines

    Author : Petter Johansson; Sören Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Diesel engine; Particle emissions; Particulate matter; PM; Lubrication oil; Inter-ring pressure; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : In recent decades much effort has gone into reducing particle emissions in the exhaust gases of heavy-duty diesel engines. Engine development has now reached the stage where it is worth to put heavy focus on the contribution of lubricating oil to particulate emissions in order to further reduce these emissions. 5. 5. Particle emissions from car brakes : The influence of contact conditions on the pad-to-rotor interface

    Author : Mattia Alemani; Ulf Olofsson; Jens Wahlström; Anders Söderberg; Staffan Jacobson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Car brakes emissions; transition temperature; working conditions; environmental design; pin-on-disc; Bilbromsutsläpp; övergångstemperatur; arbetsförhållanden; miljödesign; pinne-på-skiva; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Due to their adverse health effects emissions have been regulated for over three decades. Brake wear particulate matter is the most important non-exhaust source, however current knowledge is mainly limited to observational studies. READ MORE
