  1. 1. Particle-laden Turbulent Wall-bounded Flows in Moderately Complex Geometries

    Author : Azad Noorani; Philipp Schlatter; Helge Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent; complex geometry; particle; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : Wall-bounded turbulent dispersed multiphase flows occur in a variety of industrial, biological and environmental applications. The complex nature of the carrier and the particulate phase is elevated to a higher level when introducing geometrical complexities such as curved walls. READ MORE

  2. 2. Confined Compression of Single Particles : Development of a Novel Triaxial Testing Instrument and Particle-Scale Modelling

    Author : Henrik Jonsson; Göran Frenning; Göran Alderborn; Abderrahim Michrafy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Powder compaction; Compression; Single particle; Particle mechanics; Powder mechanics; Confined conditions; Triaxial; Apparatus design; Modelling; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics;

    Abstract : When predicting the performance of a powder compaction process, assessing the behaviour of the particles comprising the powder bed is of central relevance. Currently, however, no experimental methods are available for mimicking the multiaxial loading conditions imposed on the individual particles in a powder bed during compaction, and such analyses are therefore usually performed in silico. 3. 3. Tracking Chambers with Two-Dimensional Readout used for Extraction of Particle Production Ratios in High Multiplicity Pb+Pb Collisions at 158 A GeV

    Author : Tomas Svensson; Fysiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heavy-ion collisions; position resolution; wire chamber pixel readout; pad readout; tracking; multi-step avalanche chamber; Fysik; Physics; particle ratios;

    Abstract : Heavy-ion collisions at high energies calls for new technical solutions to cope with the very high multiplicities of produced particles. In this thesis the design and development of two types of tracking chambers for high multiplicity environments are presented. READ MORE

  4. 4. Computer simulations of electronic energy transfer and a molecular dynamics study of a decapeptide

    Author : Maria Lindberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electronic energy transfer; Monte Carlo simulations; two-particle model; GAF-theory; anisotropic systems; fluorescence depolarization ratios; Brownian Dynamics; rotating donors; Molecular Dynamics; peptide; renin inhibitor;

    Abstract : Electronic energy transfer has been investigated in pure donor systems by means of computer simulations. Calculated properties were the probability that the initially excited donor is excited at a time t after the excitation, Gs(t), the mean square displacement of the excitation and different fluorescence observables. 5. 5. Measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson cross sections in the WW* decay mode with the ATLAS experiment

    Author : P. Edvin Sidebo; Jonas Strandberg; Markus Klute; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; p p: colliding beams; Higgs particle: hadroproduction; Higgs particle: decay; cross section: measured; High energy physics: experimental; Timing detectors; p p: scattering; ATLAS; Cern LHC Coll; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson production cross sections based on proton–proton collision data at √s = 13 TeV produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. By analysing data collected during 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 fb−1, the Higgs boson gluon–gluon fusion and vector boson fusion production cross sections are measured in the WW* decay mode.
