    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Persian; language technology; corpus; treebank; preprocessing; segmentation; part-of-speech tagging; dependency parsing; Computational Linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents open source resources in the form of annotated corpora and modules for automatic morphosyntactic processing and analysis of Persian texts. More specifically, the resources consist of an improved part-of-speech tagged corpus and a dependency treebank, as well as tools for text normalization, sentence segmentation, tokenization, part-of-speech tagging, and dependency parsing for Persian. 2. 2. Perceptual reorganization of vowels : Separating the linguistic and acoustic parts of the mismatch response

    Author : Ellen Marklund; Francisco Lacerda; Iris-Corinna Schwarz; Riitta Salmelin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; language acquisition; infants; speech perception; MMR; MMN; perceptual reorganization; Linguistics; lingvistik;

    Abstract : During the first year of life, infants go from perceiving speech sounds primarily based on their acoustic characteristics, to perceiving speech sounds as belonging to speech sound categories relevant in their native language(s). The transition is apparent in that very young infants typically discriminate both native and non-native speech sound contrasts, whereas older infants show better discrimination for native contrasts and worse or no discrimination for non-native contrasts. 4. 4. Entropy and Speech

    Author : Mattias Nilsson; Bastian Kleijn; Sören Holdt Jensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; speech representation; energy concentration; entropy estimation; manifolds; Acoustics; Akustik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we study the representation of speech signals and the estimation of information-theoretical measures from observations containing features of the speech signal. The main body of the thesis consists of four research papers. Paper A presents a compact representation of the speech signal that facilitates perfect reconstruction. READ MORE

    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; radio; communication theory; sound-meaning; radio listening; radio programmes; programme analysis.; medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap; Media and Communication Studies;

    Abstract : The primary purpose of this doctoral thesis is to present a theoretical framework for analysis of communication through radio, taking the sounding dimension of the medium as a primary characteristic. My theoretical approach is manifold, but I explicitly use writings from the field of ethnomethodology/microsociology (linguistic communication) of Alfred Schutz (sociology of everyday life) and Gerhard Maletzke (mediated communication).
