1. Peptide Conjugates as Useful Molecular Tools
Abstract : The conjugation of a small organic molecule to synthetic polypeptides from a designed set has been shown to give rise to binders with high affinity and selectivity for the phosphorylated model proteins α-casein and β-casein but not for ovoalbumin. The small organic molecule that was used for this purpose is comprised of two di-(2-picolyl)amine groups assembled on a dimethylphenyl scaffold, and is capable of complexing two Zn2+ ions to form chelates that bind the phosphate ion. 2. Design, Synthesis and Characterization of Small Molecule Inhibitors and Small Molecule : Peptide Conjugates as Protein Actors
Abstract : This thesis describes different aspects of protein interactions. Initially the function of peptides and their conjugates with small molecule inhibitors on the surface of Human Carbonic Anhydrase isoenzyme II (HCAII) is evaluated. READ MORE

3. Development of Peptide Binders : Applied to Human CRP, Carbonic Anhydrase (II, IX) and Lysine Demethylase 1
Abstract : In this thesis, a polypeptide binder concept is illustrated. By conjugation to a set of sixteen polypeptides, a small binding molecule can evolve into a polypeptide binder with increased affinity and selectivity. READ MORE

4. Polypeptide Conjugates as High-affinity Binders for Proteins
Abstract : A novel concept for protein recognition has been developed. The recognition unit is a hybrid molecule obtained by conjugation of a small organic molecule to a synthetic polypeptide selected from a 16-membered set of 42 amino acid residue sequences. The sequences are unordered and have no prior relation to the target proteins. READ MORE

5. Cell-penetrating peptides, novel synthetic nucleic acids, and regulation of gene function : Reconnaissance for designing functional conjugates
Abstract : Our genome operates by sending instructions, conveyed by mRNA, for the manufacture of proteins from chromosomal DNA in the nucleus of the cell to the protein synthesizing machinery in the cytoplasm. Alternative splicing is a natural process in which a single gene can encode multiple related proteins. READ MORE
