1. Perioperative Myocardial Damage and Morbidity after Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Abstract : The aims of this project were to investigate the impact of perioperative myocardial damage on morbidity and mortality after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), to determine whether biochemical marker levels after CABG correlate to perioperative myocardial infarct size, and to assess the long-term morbidity after CABG, in particular to determine whether women do worse. The studies were conducted in patients who had undergone isolated, primary CABG. 2. Perioperative myocardial infarction in cardiac surgery : a diagnostic dilemma
Abstract : Perioperative myocardial infarction remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality after cardiac surgery. In spite of this there is no consensus regarding diagnostic criteria and consequently the reported incidence varies widely. READ MORE

3. Glutamate for metabolic intervention in coronary surgery : with special reference to the GLUTAMICS-trial
Abstract : Myocardial ischemia is a major cause of postoperative heart failure and adverse outcome in coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Conventional treatment of postoperative heart failure with inotropic drugs may aggravate underlying ischemic injury. READ MORE

4. Haemostatic function in precocious myocardial infarction and vein graft occlusion after coronary artery bypass grafting
Abstract : The present study examined the role of blood coagulation and fibrinolytic function in patients with coronary heart disease in two settings; in patients with precocious myocardial infarction in whom thrombosis is considered to constitute an important pathogenic mechanism and in unselected patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in whom early thrombotic occlusion of vein grafts is a considerable problem. Particular attention was paid to coagulation factor Vll and the tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) in the young post-infarction patients. READ MORE

5. Perioperative acute kidney injury : risk factors and outcomes
Abstract : Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined as a sudden decrease in renal filtration function. It is common among critically ill patients and patients undergoing major surgery, especially cardiac surgery. AKI is defined by either an elevated serum creatinine (SCr) concentration or a decrease in urine production. READ MORE
