  1. 1. Persistent organic pollutants in benthic foodwebs

    Author : Niklas Holmqvist; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; limnologi; Marinbiologi; limnology; aquatic ecology; marine biology; Hydrobiology; Ekologi; Ecology; Intraspecific interactions; streams; nutrients; lakes; crayfish; eels; Persistent organic pollutants; Benthic foodwebs; akvatisk ekologi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Concentrations of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in aquatic biota are dependent on several factors both on individual and on system level. Bioaccumulation of POPs in pelagic biota in lakes as well as fish in streams has been shown to be dependent on nutrient regime of the system. READ MORE

  2. 2. Human exposure to persistent organic pollutants : Illustrated by four case studies in Europe

    Author : Jana Weiss; Åke Bergman; Janice Huwe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Human exposure; Persistent organic pollutants POPs ; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : An extensive use of chemicals in countless consumer products has resulted in human exposure to several persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Sufficient knowledge about their chemical composition properties and environmental faith is required, to be able to proper risk assess and regulate the substances. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards International Chemical Safety : Taking Action on Persistent Organic Pollutants

    Author : Henrik Selin; Loftsson Elfar; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution CLRTAP ; persistent organic pollutants POPs ; regime analysis; social learning; Miljö; Föroreningar; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) have been subject to increased international ro-operation over that past decade. The first international effort to address POPs collectively as a distinet class of pollutants was made under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and within the framework of the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP), which geographically covers North America, Europe and the region of the former Soviet Union. 4. 4. Persistent organic pollutants in the atmosphere - spatial and temporal variations

    Author : Cecilia Backe; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tropical and temperate regions; global transport; temperature; latitudinal fractionation; fugacity; soil organic matter; soil-air exchange; washout ratio; rain; precipitation; atmosphere; spatial and temporal variations; DDT; PCB; persistent organic pollutants; polychlorinated biphenyls; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Ecology; Ekologi; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : In these thesis I have studied the spatial and temporal variations of PCBs in the atmosphere and in precipitation in southern Sweden. Further, soil-air exchange processes of PCBs were investigated. Finally, the long-range transport of PCBs and DDT was studied in the Baltic Sea region and in a tropical vs. a temporal region. 5. 5. Persistent Organic Pollutants and the Environment : A Chemometric Approach to the Study of Halogenated Aromatics

    Author : Tomas Öberg; Bo Bergbäck; Bo Wiman; Jaakko Paasivirta; Högskolan i Kalmar; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Environmental Chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Concern is growing about the environmental and health effects of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), many of which are halogenated aromatic compunds. The research reported in this thesis focuses on factors determining their behaviour and release into the environment. READ MORE
