1. Food and Packaging Interactions Affecting Food Quality
Abstract : Food and packaging interactions that may impair the food quality have been studied and methods to determine these interactions have been developed. An off-line supercritical fluid extraction method using carbon dioxide was developed and used to extract sorbed low molecular weight compounds from polymer films. READ MORE

2. Reuse and Recycling of Food Packaging - Odour Related Aspects of the Use and Misuse of PET Beverage Bottles
Abstract : The reuse and closed-loop recycling of food packaging was studied in order to assess consumer safety and the sensory quality (e.g. taste and smell) of packaged food. READ MORE

3. Migration from plastic food packaging during microwave heating
Abstract : Microwave heating of food has increased rapidly as a food processing technique. This increases the concern that chemicals could migrate from food packaging to food. The specific effect of microwave heating in contrast to conventional heating on overall and specific migration from common plastic food storage boxes was studied in this work. READ MORE

4. Bio-based barriers from wood hydrolysates : A pilot-scale approach
Abstract : Wood hydrolysates (WHs) are liquids extracted from the hydrothermal treatment of wood. They exist as the byproduct of forestry industries such as the dissolving pulp and fiberboard industries. WHs are hemicellulose-based with a large share of lignin in the chemical composition. READ MORE

5. The role of the serotonergic system and the effects of antidepressants during brain development examined using in vivo PET imaging and in vitro receptor binding
Abstract : Serotonin (5-HT) and the serotonergic system, which includes the serotonin transporter (SERT) and the two G protein-coupled 5-HT1A and 5-HT1B receptors, are implicated in the pathophysiology and treatment of several neuropsychiatric disorders including major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety. Two classes of antidepressants—selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), which block SERT, and tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), which block several monoamine transporters—alter 5-HT levels and modulate the serotonergic system.
