  1. 1. Effects of enhanced ultraviolet-B radiation on subarctic ecosystems

    Author : Carola Gehrke; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pigmentation; photosynthesis; dark respiration; shoot morphology; shoot growth; phanerogams ; species composition cryptogams; productivity; decomposition; dwarf shrubs; bryophytes; peatland ecosystem; heath ecosystem; UV-B; ozone depletion; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Abstract : Biologically harmful ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B, 280-320 nm) is increasing at the Earth´s surface owing to stratospheric ozone depletion. This is of global concern due to potential impacts of enhanced UV-B radiation on the biosphere. READ MORE

  3. 3. From pattern to process : Studies on limestone grassland, with emphasis on the bryophyte-lichen layer and its effects on vascular plants

    Author : Manuela Zamfir; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Alvar; Bryophytes; Carousel model; Community structure; Competition; Dynanmics; Interactions; Lichens; PASFRAN; pattern analysis; Sweden; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Abstract : Patterns in space and time at different scales in the bryophyte-lichen layer, aud multi-species spatial patterns of bryophytes, lichens and vascular plants were studied in Avenetum limestone grassland on the Great Alvar of the Baltic Island of Öland, south-eastem Sweden.Spatiotemporal patterns of bryophytes and Iichens in grazed and ungrazed alvar grassland demonstrated that dominant species forming large patches were relatively stable in time, whereas less frequent species forming small patches were more mobile. 4. 4. Small-scale pattern and mobility of plant species in Alvar grassland

    Author : Xiaobing Dai; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Studies of the small-scale pattern, mobility of plant species and the effects of cattle dung deposition and decomposition on the soil seed banks and the above-ground vegetation were carried out in an alvar limestone grassland in Gettlinge, on the Baltic island of Öland, Sweden.A new method for pattern detection using transect data Patch Size Frequency Analysis (PASFRAN), was developed.
