  1. 1. Laboratory X-Ray Phase-Contrast Imaging : Methods and Comparisons

    Author : Tunhe Zhou; Anna Burvall; Hans M. Hertz; Tim Salditt; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; X-ray imaging; Phase-contrast; Liquid-metal-jet source; Propagation-based imaging; Grating-based imaging; Speckle-based imaging; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : X-ray phase-contrast imaging has seen rapid development in recent decades due to its superior performance in imaging low-absorption objects, compared to traditional attenuation x-ray imaging. Having higher demand on coherence, x-ray phase-contrast imaging is performed mostly at synchrotrons. READ MORE

  2. 2. Coherent Diffractive Imaging with X-ray Lasers

    Author : Max Felix Hantke; Filipe R. N. C. Maia; Janos Hajdu; Martin Svenda; Edgar Weckert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coherent diffractive X-ray imaging; lensless imaging; coherent X-ray diffractive imaging; flash diffractive imaging; single particle imaging; aerosol injection; electrospray injection; substrate-free sample delivery; carboxysome; phase retrieval; X-ray diffraction software; X-ray free-electron laser; XFEL; FEL; CXI; CDI; CXDI; FXI;

    Abstract : The newly emerging technology of X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs) has the potential to revolutionise molecular imaging. XFELs generate very intense X-ray pulses and predictions suggest that they may be used for structure determination to atomic resolution even for single molecules. READ MORE

  3. 3. High-resolution biomedical phase-contrast tomography

    Author : William Twengström; Hans Hertz; Anna Burvall; Marco Stampanoni; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; x-ray; x-ray imaging; biomedical; phase contrast; tomography; zebrafish; coronary artery; virtual histology; ring artifacts; phase retrieval; mummy; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Improved three-dimensional biomedical imaging can give a better understanding of tissue structure, growth and diseases. Most present imaging techniques that provide cellular spatial resolution are based on visible or infrared light. These methods cannot image deeper than a millimeter into tissue. READ MORE

  4. 4. Liquid-Jet-Target Microfocus X-Ray Sources : Electron Guns, Optics and Phase-Contrast Imaging

    Author : Tomi Tuohimaa; Hans M. Hertz; Stephen Wilkins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electron-impact; x-ray; brightness; liquid-jet-target; phase-contrast imaging; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : This Thesis describes the development of an electron-impact microfocus x-ray source and its application for phase-contrast imaging. The source is based on a novel, liquid-jet target concept. Stable and continuous operation can be achieved at substantially higher electron-beam power densities than conventional solid target based systems. READ MORE

  5. 5. Applications of statistical methods in quantitative magnetic resonance imaging

    Author : Patrik Brynolfsson; Anders Garpebring; Tufve Nyholm; Eirik Malinen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Quantitative imaging; tumor imaging; dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI; diffusion weighted MRI; texture analysis; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging, MRI, offers a vast range of imaging methods that can be employed in the characterization of tumors. MRI is generally used in a qualitative way, where radiologists interpret the images for e.g. diagnosis, follow ups, or assessment of treatment response. READ MORE
