1. On Phase Behaviours in Lipid/Polymer/Solvent/Water Systems and their Application for Formation of Lipid/Polymer Composite Particles
Abstract : A new kind of lipid/polymer composite particle, consisting of a biodegradable polymer matrix with well-defined lipid domains, has been created. The lipid used is the water-swelling lipid monoolein (MO), which forms a reversed bicontinuous cubic diamond structure in aqueous solutions. READ MORE

2. Phase Segregation and Microstructural Changes in Starch - Protein Systems
Abstract : This thesis presents the study of the phase behavior of starch ? protein systems in relation to their microstructure and mechanical properties. To study the complexity of this multicomponent system, the main components of starch (amylopectin and amylose) were studied separately in presence of a protein (ß-lactoglobulin or patatin). READ MORE

3. Ternary Block Copolymer Systems - Phase Behaviour and Phase Structure
Abstract : Ternary isothermal (25°C) polyoxyalkylene triblock block copolymer ((EO)x(PO)y(EO)x where x is the number of ethylene oxide, EO, segments and y is the number of propylene oxide, PO, segments) systems with water and p-xylene as selective solvents for the PEO and PPO blocks, respectively, were chosen as study systems in this thesis as these ternary systems are good model systems for the self-assembly of block copolymers. The phase behaviour has been studied at varied block copolymer molecular weight and relative PEO/PPO block ratio. READ MORE

4. Bilayers with Surfactant-induced Pores and Demixing in Micelles : Studies of Segregation in Amphiphile Systems
Abstract : The focus of this thesis has been on the effects of segregation in mixtures of amphiphilic molecules. Two different systems were investigated: fluorocarbon-hydrocarbon surfactant mixtures and lipid-surfactant mixtures. READ MORE

5. Adsorption, aggregation and phase separation in colloidal systems
Abstract : The thesis presents work regarding amphiphilic molecules associated in aqueous solution or at the liquid/solid interface. Two main topics are included: the temperature-dependent behavior of micelles and the adsorption of dispersants on carbon nanotube (CNT) surfaces. READ MORE
