  1. 1. X-ray characterization of PaPheOH, a bacterial phenylalanine hydroxylase

    Author : Fredrik Ekström; Uwe H. Sauer; Edward Hough; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; PaPheOH; PheOH; PAH; phhA; phenylalanine hydroxylase; protein crystallography; a-actinin; microcrystal; ABD; CH-domain; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Many human diseases are associated with the malfunction of enzymes in the aromatic amino acid hydroxylase family, e.g. phenylketonuria (PKU), hyperphenylalaninemia (HPA), schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Non-invasive monitoring of low molecular weight biomarkers relevant to skin inflammation and cancer

    Author : Skaidre Jankovskaja; Tautgirdas Ruzgas; Johan Engblom; György Marko-Varga; Melinda Rezeli; Pawel Lukasz Urban; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tryptophan; Kynurenine; Phenylalanine; Tyrosine; Low molecular Weight Biomarkers; Non-Invasive; Skin Surface Sampling; Skin Permeability; Hydrogels; Prussian White; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Abstract : Development of skin inflammation and cancer in viable epidermis and dermis involve slow molecular weight (LMW) metabolites. We hypothesize that these LMW compounds can be collected on the surface of the skin and used for non-invasive diagnostics of skin disorders. READ MORE

  3. 3. Discovery of Small Peptides and Peptidomimetics Targeting the Substance P 1-7 Binding Site : Focus on Design, Synthesis, Structure-Activity Relationships and Drug-Like Properties

    Author : Rebecca Fransson; Anja Sandström; John S Svendsen; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Biologically active peptides are important for many physiological functions in the human body and therefore serve as interesting starting points in drug discovery processes. In this work the neuropeptide substance P 1–7 (SP1–7, H-Arg-Pro-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gln-Phe-OH), which has been demonstrated to reduce neuropathic pain and attenuate opioid withdrawal symptoms in animal models, has been addressed in a medicinal chemistry program with the overall aim of transforming this bioactive peptide into more drug-like compounds. 4. 4. POLYPEPTIDES - STRUCTURES AND INTERACTIONS IN MONOLAYERS AND AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS

    Author : Helen Sjögren; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi; tyrosine ; co-poly-L lysine; phenylalanine ; co-poly-L- lysine; poly-L-glutamate; poly-L-lysine; poly-L-valine; poly-L-isoleucine; poly-gamma-methyl-L-glutamate; poly-L-leucine; monolayer; Langmuir-Blodgett film; CD spectroscopy; random coil; alpha-helix; surfactant stabilisation; polypeptide; polyamino acid;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis work is to understand and be able to control polypeptide conformation and interactions at interfaces and in solution by changing the solution conditions. For this purpose simple model polypeptides, so-called polyamino acids, have been investigated at the air-liquid interface, as well as in aqueous solutions. READ MORE
