1. Analysis of quality characteristics of radiotherapeutic photon beams
Abstract : The lepton and photon contamination of high energy photon beams for radiation therapy has been investigated computationally and experimentally. The contaminating particles will effect the quality of the beam by increasing the surface dose, degrading the uniformity of the beam, broadening the penumbra, and increasing the energy imparted outside the useful beam. 2. Generation and detection of non-classical photon states
Abstract : This thesis intends to familiarize the reader with the concepts of photon statistics and correlations in quantum optics. Developing light sources that emit quantum states is central for the realization of quantum technologies. READ MORE

3. Single-Photon Events in the DELPHI Experiment
Abstract : A series of studies pertaining to the STIC calorimeter at the DELPHI experiment at LEP is presented, and a new generation of fast wire scanners for emittance measurements at PS is described. The STIC studies are centered around a single-photon analysis, in which the reaction e+ e- -> gamma + invisible particles was studied at center-of-mass energies of 161, 172 and 183 GeV. READ MORE

4. Spectral Computed Tomography with a Photon-Counting Silicon-Strip Detector
Abstract : Computed tomography (CT) is a widely used medical imaging modality. By rotating an x-ray tube and an x-ray detector around the patient, a CT scanner is able to measure the x-ray transmission from all directions and form an image of the patient’s interior. READ MORE

5. Digital Mammography with a Photon Counting Detector in a Scanned Multislit Geometry
Abstract : Mammography screening aims to reduce the number of breast cancer deaths by early detection of the disease, which is one of the leading causes of deaths for middle aged women in the western world. The risk from the x-ray radiation in mammography is relatively low but still a factor in the benefit-risk ratio of screening. READ MORE
