  1. 1. Photoreceptors in experimental retinal cell transplants

    Author : Bengt Juliusson; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ophtalmology; immunohistochemistry; mice; rabbits; rats; interphotoreceptor matrix; retinal pigment epithelium; photoreceptors; Retina; transplantation; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to investigate the fate of photoreceptor cells when using different strategies for retinal cell transplantation. Comparing transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina with cell suspensions of the same tissue we found that transplantation of fragments of embryonic retina result in mature transplants with a higher degree of cellular organization than transplantation of cell suspensions of embryonic retina. 2. 2. Keeping up with retinal photoreceptors and horizontal cells : Labelling and mapping of cells in the normal and diseased embryonic chicken retina

    Author : Maria Blixt; Finn Hallböök; Maria Valeria Canto-Soler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chicken; electroporation; horizontal cells; photoreceptors; retina; piggyBac;

    Abstract : The childhood eye cancer retinoblastoma originates from the retina and its development is initiated while the foetus is in the uterus. Retinoblastoma has a reported incidence of 1 in 15-18 000 live births, and approximately 90% of all patients are diagnosed before the age of 5. READ MORE

  3. 3. The potential role of retinal cGMP-interaction partners within the degeneration mechanism causing Retinitis Pigmentosa

    Author : Michel Rasmussen; Lund Oftalmologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Retinitis Pigmentosa; Photoreceptors; cGMP; cGMP-interactors; retinal degeneration; neuroprotection;

    Abstract : The eye disease Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) represents a heterogeneous group of inherited retinal dystrophies, and it has been estimated that 1 in 3000 to 7000 people worldwide has the disease. The symptoms of RP are photoreceptor degeneration that leads to night blindness, followed by a decline in peripheral and central vision, and potential blindness. READ MORE

  4. 4. Clinical Studies on Dark Adaptation: with Particular Reference to Carotid Artery Disease

    Author : Ulf Havelius; Oftalmologi (Malmö); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; polycythemia; photoreceptors; phlebotomy; ocular blood flow; headache; dilation lag; dark adaptometry; dark adaptation; color Doppler imaging; carotid artery stenosis; carotid artery disease; carotid endarterectomy; pupil; pupillometry; retinal blood flow; Ophtalmology; Oftalmologi;

    Abstract : Purpose: To study dark adaptation in patients with symptomatic carotid artery disease or polycythemia before and after treatment. This necessitated determinations of pupillary changes as such may influence the findings. To determine whether changes in the retinal blood flow in light and darkness occur in healthy humans. 5. 5. The Primary Structural Photo-Response of a Bacterial Phytochrome Probed by Serial Femtosecond Crystallography

    Author : Elin Claesson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photoreceptors; Phytochromes; SFX;

    Abstract : Species across all kingdoms of life rely on the ability to sense different light conditions. Some organisms convert light into chemical energy via the reactions involved in photosynthesis, whereas others use it to trigger cellular signals. The group of proteins that are responsible for light perception are called photoreceptor proteins. READ MORE
