1. Synthesis and Photochemical Characterisation of Photoactive Compounds for Molecular Electronics
Abstract : In this modern age of technology, communication is highly reliant on computing devices such as mobile phones and computers. The advent of artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT) as well as the widespread use of user-generated contents (UGC) are demanding more computing power and large data storage. 2. A new approach to the analyses of fluorescence depolarisation experiments in the presence of electronic energy transport
Abstract : A new and general procedure is described for a detailed analysis of time-resolved fluorescence depolarisation data in the presence of electronic energy migration. An isotropic ensemble of bifluorophoric molecules (D1-R-D2) has been studied to demonstrate its utility. READ MORE

3. Diatoms as indicators of Holocene climate and environmental change in northern Sweden
Abstract : The objective of the thesis was to explore the potential of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) as indicators of Holocene climate and environmental change in northern Sweden (Abisko region, 68°21'N, 18°49'E). A modern surface-sediment calibration set including 100 lakes was developed and lake-water pH, sedimentary organic content (assessed by loss-on-ignition) and temperature were identified as most powerful environmental variables explaining the variance within the diatom assemblages. 4. Modelling water and solute flows at land-sea and land-atmosphere interfaces under data limitations
Abstract : Water and vapour flows from land to sea and the atmosphere are important for water resources, coastal ecosystems and climate. This thesis investigates possible methods for modelling these flows under often encountered unmonitored hydrological conditions and data limitations. READ MORE

5. Kinetic Measurements Using Nanoplasmonic Sensing
Abstract : In this thesis the nanoplasmonic sensing technique was used to study kinetics of (i) the oxidation of Al nanoparticles in air and water and (ii) the solid-liquid phase transition in Sn nanoparticles. The nanoplasmonic sensing technique detects changes of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in metal nanoparticles. READ MORE
