1. Microstructure and deformation behaviour of ductile iron under tensile loading
Abstract : The current thesis focuses on the deformation behaviour and strain distribution in the microstructure of ductile iron during tensile loading. Utilizing Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and in-situ tensile test under optical microscope, a method was developed to measure high resolution strain in microstructural constitutes. READ MORE

2. On the deformation behavior and cracking of ductile iron; effect of microstructure
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the effect of microstructural variation on the mechanical properties and deformation behavior of ductile iron. To research and determine these effects, two grades of ductile iron, (i) GJS-500-7 and (ii) high silicon GJS-500-14, were cast in a geometry containing several plates with different section thicknesses in order to produce microstructural variation. 3. Ultrastructure of the wood cell wall
Abstract : The ultrastructure of wood fibres has been studied incambial cells, differentiating fibres and mature xylem fibres, using the Rapid-Freeze Deep-Etching (RFDE) technique combinedwith transmission electron- and epifluorescence microscopy.Pectin distribution in mature wood fibres, and in fibres duringdevelopment, have been studied by immunolabelling. 4. Epitaxial Growth, Processing and Characterization of Semiconductor Nanostructures
Abstract : This thesis deals with the growth, processing and characterization of nano-sized structures, eg., self-assembled quantum dots and nano-wires. READ MORE

5. Environment Related Surface Phenomena and their Influence on Properties of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo : Oxidation at Elevated Temperature and Corrosion During Chemical Treatment
Abstract : This doctoral thesis covers investigation of the surface phenomena of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-6Al-2Sn-4Zr-2Mo alloys related with oxidation at elevated temperature and corrosion duringchemical treatment in hydrofluoric-nitric acid (HF/HNO3) solutions. The explored phenomenaare related to manufacturing and service conditions of aero-engine components. READ MORE
