1. Plasma environment of an intermediately active comet : Evolution and dynamics observed by ESA's Rosetta spacecraft at 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the evolution and dynamics of the plasma environment of a moderately active comet before, during and after its closest approach to the Sun. For over 2 years in 2014-2016, the European Space Agency’s Rosetta spacecraft followed the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko at distances typically between a few tens and a few hundred kilometers from the nucleus, the longest and closest inspection of a comet ever made. 3. The Klimontovich description of complex plasma systems : Low frequency electrostatic modes, spectral densities of fluctuations and collision integrals
Abstract : Plasmas seeded with solid particulates of nanometer to micron sizes (complex plasma systems) are a ubiquitous feature of intergalactic, interstellar and planetary environments but also of plasma processing applications or even fusion devices. Their novel aspects compared with ideal multi-component plasmas stem from (i) the large number of elementary charges residing on the grain surface, (ii) the variability of the charge over mass ratio of the dust component, (iii) the inherent openness and dissipative nature of such systems. 5. Gyrokinetic simulations of microturbulence and transport in tokamak plasmas
Abstract : Fusion power is one of few viable and sustainable means of energy production. The tokamak is arguable the most mature technology to magnetically confine fusion plasmas. In these devices, heat and particle transport is dominated by small-scale turbulent fluctuations. READ MORE
