1. Porous polymeric materials for chromatography : Synthesis, functionalization and characterization
Abstract : Background: Separation science is heavily reliant on materials to fulfill ever more complicated demands raised by other areas of science, notably the rapidly expanding molecular biosciences and environmental monitoring. The key to successful separations lies in a combination of physical properties and surface chemistry of stationary phases used in liquid chromatographic separation, and this thesis address both aspects of novel separation materials. 2. Luminescent textiles using biobased products : A bioinspired approach
Abstract : Nature has designed a few biobased molecules that are responsible for bioluminescence and photoluminescence in some living species. In this thesis, the potential use of luminescence phenomena existing in nature toward the attainment of luminescent textiles was explored. READ MORE

3. Functionalization and processing of porous powders into hierarchically porous monoliths
Abstract : Inorganic porous materials are widely used in a number of applications, where is a need to functionalize and produce materials with a multiscale porosity. The first part of the thesis describes how a novel and facile powder processing approach, using pulsed current processing (PCP) or, as it is commonly called, spark plasma sintering (SPS), has been employed to produce mechanically stable, hierarchically porous bodies from different porous powders. 4. 3D printing of polymers onto textiles : An innovative approach to develop functional textiles
Abstract : This thesis aims at characterizing tridimensional (3D) printed polymers onto PET textile materials via fused deposition modeling (FDM) that uses both non-conductive and conductive polymers, optimizing their mechanical and electrical properties through statistical modeling and enhancing them with pre and post-treatments and the development of polymer blends. This research work supports the development of technical textiles through 3D printing that may have functionalities. READ MORE

5. Cell-Penetrating Penetratin Peptides - Mechanistic Studies on Uptake Pathways and DNA Delivery Efficiency
Abstract : Delivery of gene-targeted drugs is limited by the inherently poor capacity of nucleic acids to overcome the membrane barrier of the cell, and development of vectors that can promote uptake is therefore crucial. Cell penetrating peptides (CPPs) have emerged as promising vector candidates due to their ability to deliver a wide range of macromolecular cargos into cells. READ MORE
