1. Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 in Platelets - Studies of Synthesis, Activity, and Glycosylation Patterns
Abstract : Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is the main physiological inhibitor of tissue-type plasminogen activator. Thus PAI-1 plays an important role in decreasing the fibrinolytic activity in human blood. PAI-1 is present in high concentrations in platelets and also in low concentrations in plasma, but the source of plasma PAI-1 is not known. READ MORE

2. Aspects of Plasminiogen Activator Inhibitor 1 in Metabolic Syndrome
Abstract : Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is the main inhibitor of the fibrinolytic system and binds irreversibly to tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA), and thereby inhibits the protective action of t-PA against thrombus formation. Elevated levels of plasma PAI-1 is observed in subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and the metabolic syndrome (MetS), which is a combination of metabolic features including obesity. READ MORE

3. The fibrinolytic enzyme system : new markers of potential interest in cardiovascular disease
Abstract : Impaired fibrinolytic function, mainly due to elevated plasma levels of PAI-1, is a common finding in patients with coronary heart disease. Determination or evaluation of the plasma PAI-1 concentrations are complicated, due to a natural variation in blood plasma or due to other reasons, such as a poor stability under physiological conditions. 4. The role of platelet thrombin receptors PAR1 and PAR4 in health and disease
Abstract : Blood cells are continuously flowing in our systems maintaining haemostasis in the arteries and veins. If a vessel is damaged, the smallest cell fragments in the blood (platelets) are directed to cover the wound and plug the leakage to prevent blood loss. Most of the time platelets stop the blood leak without any difficulties. READ MORE

5. Studies of haemostasis in acute coronary syndromes and diabetes mellitus
Abstract : The pathophysiology of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) includes atherosclerotic plaque rupture and coronary thrombus formation. Antithrombotic treatment is effective but recurrent atherothrombotic or bleeding complications are not uncommon. READ MORE
