  1. 1. Active Control and Modal Structures in Transitional Shear Flows

    Author : Onofrio Semeraro; Dan Henningson; Bernd Noack; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flow control; flat-plate boundary layer; optimal controllers; model reduction; turbulent jet; POD; DMD; Koopman modes;

    Abstract : Flow control of transitional shear flows is investigated by means of numerical simulations. The attenuation of three-dimensional wavepackets of Tollmien-Schlichting (TS) and streaks in the boundary layer is obtained using active control in combination with localised sensors and actuators distributed near the rigid wall. 2. 2. Aspects on Dynamic Power Flow Controllers and Related Devices for Increased Flexibility in Electric Power Systems

    Author : Nicklas Johansson; Hans-Peter Nee; Göran Andersson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adaptive Control; Controlled Series Compensator; Dynamic Power Flow Controller; Frequency Scanning; Phase-Shifting Transformer; Power Controller Plane; Power Flow Control; Power Oscillation Damping; Subsynchronous Resonance; Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator; Thyristor Switched Series Compensator; Transient Stability; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis studies different aspects of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices which are used to improve the power transfer capability and increase the controllability in electric power systems. In the thesis, different aspects on the usage and control of Dynamic Power Flow Controllers (DPFC) and related FACTS devices are studied. READ MORE

  3. 3. Power System Stability Enhancement Using Shunt-connected Power Electronic Devices with Active Power Injection Capability

    Author : Mebtu Bihonegn Beza; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Power Oscillation Damping POD ; energy storage; Adaptive estimation; Static Synchronous Compensator STATCOM ; Recursive Least Square RLS ; Transient Stability Enhancement TSE ; FACTS; Static Var Compensator SVC ;

    Abstract : Power electronic devices such as Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), both in shunt and series configuration, are widely used in the power system for power flow control, to increase the loading capability of an existing line and to increase the security of the system by enhancing its transient stability. Among the shunt-connected FACTS controllers family, the Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) and the Static Var Compensator (SVC) are two key devices for reinforcing the stability of the AC power system. 5. 5. Analysis of Sub-Synchronous Oscillations in Wind Power Plants

    Author : Muhammad Taha Ali; Mehrdad Ghandari; Massimo Bongiorno; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Doubly fed Induction generator; eigenvalue analysis; sub-synchronous control interaction; voltage source converter; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The modern power system is moving towards the high integration of renewable energy sources at a fast pace. The integration of wind power in the power system raises many challenges along with the benefits. One of the recent challenges is the sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) that occurs in doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind farms. READ MORE
