  1. 1. Regulation of Mammalian Poly(A) Polymerase Activity

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Thuresson; Barklie Clements; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicine; poly A polymerase; PAP; polyadenylation; isoforms; phosphorylation; alternative splicing; CPSF interaction; aminoglycosides; Biomedicin; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Poly(A) polymerase (PAP) is the enzyme catalyzing the synthesis of the adenine tail to the 3’-end of mRNA. This A-tail is present on the majority of the primary RNA transcripts of protein-coding genes, and is important for mRNA stability, export to the cytoplasm and translation. Therefore, PAP is a key regulator of eukaryotic gene expression. READ MORE

  2. 2. Functional Significance of Multiple Poly(A) Polymerases (PAPs)

    Author : Helena Nordvarg; Claire Moore; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; poly A polymerase; PAP; phosphorylation; isoforms; alternative splicing; kinetic parameters; hyperphosphorylation; regulation; Genetik; Poly A polymeras; PAP; fosforylering; isoformer; alternativ splitsning; kinetiska parametrar; reglering; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : 3’ end cleavage and polyadenylation are important steps in the maturation of eukaryotic mRNAs. Poly(A) polymerase (PAP), the enzyme catalysing the addition of adenosine residues, exists in multiple isoforms. In this study the functional significance of multiple poly(A) polymerases have been investigated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of toxicological effects of a novel in vivo benzo[a]pyrene metabolite in colonic cells

    Author : Mirjam Nordling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; benzo[a]pyrene; colon cancer; genotoxicity; oxidative DNA damage.;

    Abstract : Cancer of the colon and rectum is the third most common cancer form in the world. Where the majority of cases fall into the category of sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC), lifestyle and diet have been found to be important risk factors associated with CRC. READ MORE

  4. 4. Apoptosis And Excitotoxicity In The Death of Cultured And Grafted Dopaminergic Neurones

    Author : Gabriele Schierle; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ac-YVAD-cmk; MK-801; flunarizine; N-methyl-D-aspartate; voltage-dependent calcium channels; Bcl-2; caspase; excitotoxicity; apoptosis; tyrosine hydroxylase; dopamine; Parkinson s disease; intracerebral transplantation; Poly ADP-ribose polymerase; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : Over the past two decades, grafting of embryonic nigral tissue has developed into a feasible therapeutic strategy for Parkinson's disease (PD). It has become apparent that the degree of restoration of dopaminergic neurotransmission by the transplanted cells is highly correlated to the symptomatic relief. READ MORE

  5. 5. Engineering Surfaces of Solid-State Nanopores for Biomolecule Sensing

    Author : Shiyu Li; Shi-Li Zhang; Michael Mayer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solid-state nanopores; surface engineering; DNA sensing; DNA polymerase; optical detection; lipid bilayer; hafnium oxide; electron beam induced deposition;

    Abstract : Nanopores have emerged as a special class of single-molecule analytical tool that offers immense potential for sensing and characterizing biomolecules such as nucleic acids and proteins. As an alternative to biological nanopores, solid-state nanopores present remarkable versatility due to their wide-range tunability in pore geometry and dimension as well as their excellent mechanical robustness and stability.
