1. Stabilizers in crosslinked polydimethylsiloxane
Abstract : The loss and recovery of the surface hydrophobicity areimportant phenomena when highvoltage insulators, with a shedmaterial composed of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), are used. Theloss of hydrophobicity is mostly due to the oxidativecrosslinking which takes place on the PDMS surface duringexposure to electrical discharges, e. g. corona discharges. READ MORE

2. Antibacterial elastomeric materials for biomedical applications
Abstract : An ageing population in combination with scientific and clinical advancements have led to a steady increase in the use of medical devices. Elastomeric biomaterials – materials displaying rubber-like mechanics – have found widespread applicability in the production of both short- and long-term medical devices. READ MORE

3. Integration of Surface Acoustic Wave and Microfluidic Technologies for Liquid-Phase Sensing Applications
Abstract : This thesis discusses a new concept for construction of a novel SAW in-liquid sensor employing surface acoustic wave resonance (SAR) in a one-port configuration. In this concept, the reflective gratings of a one-port SAW resonator are employed as mass loading-sensing elements, while the SAW transducer is protected from the measurement environment, reducing power losses significantly. 4. Carbon Nanotubes for Electronic Packaging: Growth, Novel Devices and 3D Networks
Abstract : Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have shown great potential of application in electronics because of their attractive physical properties, such as high surface-to-volume ratio, high electron mobility, high Young’s modulus, high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, etc. However, many obstacles are yet to be removed to use CNTs as building blocks in electronic systems. 5. Silicone Rubber Insulators: Impacts of Material Formulation in Coastal Environment
Abstract : This thesis deals with influences of material formulation on the performance of silicone rubber high voltage insulators in a coastal environment. Samples and insulators with known differences in material compositions have been used in this task. In the first step, a screening test with cylindrical samples was initiated. READ MORE
