  1. 1. Silicon neural interfaces -Design and biomedical aspects-

    Author : Lars Wallman; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Elektronik och elektroteknik; Electronics and Electrical technology; pn-etch stop; biocompatibility; neural recordings; porous silicon; silicon; neural interface; sieve electrode; General biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ;

    Abstract : This thesis covers the development of a silicon neural interface, with focus on silicon sieve electrode fabrication, design, nerve regeneration, signal recording and biocompatibility. A study of how the via hole size and transparency of the perforated sieve membrane influences the nerve regeneration is presented together with a study on soft tissue responses to planar and porous silicon. 2. 2. Porous Silicon Microbioreactors - Applications and Technology

    Author : Martin Bengtsson; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Elektroteknik; Electrical engineering; immobilised cells; enzyme reactor; micro fluidics; Microreactor; porous silicon;

    Abstract : Microfluidic systems have become one of the most interesting fields in the research of chemical analysis. Miniaturized systems exhibit numerous practical advantages when compared with traditional batch-scale synthesis such as lower sample volumes, increased control of the reactions and higher sample throughput. 3. 3. Porous Silicon -an enzyme coupling matrix for micromachined reactors

    Author : Johan Drott; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Instrumentation technology; glucose; biosensor; immobilised enzyme; porous silicon; microreactor; Mät- och instrumenteringsteknik;

    Abstract : The development of a miniaturised silicon wafer integrated enzyme reactor is described. The reactor was micromachined by anisotropic wet etching of (110) silicon. The enzyme glucose oxidase (GOx) was coupled to the reactor surface with standard methods of immobilising enzyme to silica. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biomolecular Interactions with Porous Silicon

    Author : Linda Karlsson; Martin Malmsten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : One common problem when putting something inside the body is a fast response from the body defending it from the intruder. Here the researchers are struggling with finding biocompatible materials, which act in a predicted and non-harmful way. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optical Properties of Single Silicon Quantum Dots

    Author : Federico Pevere; Jan Linnros; Uwe Kortshagen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; silicon; nanocrystals; quantum dots; photoluminescence; optics; emission; absorption; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : For over 60 years silicon (Si) has dominated the semiconductor microelectronics industry mainly due to its abundance and good electrical and material properties. The advanced processing technology of Si has made it the workhorse for photovoltaics industry as well. READ MORE
