  1. 1. Planning Models for Single Wire Earth Return Power Distribution Networks

    Author : Geofrey Bakkabulindi; Lennart Söder; Mikael Amelin; Peiyuan Chen; KTH; []
    Keywords : Rural electrification; power distribution planning; Single Wire Earth Return; distribution power flow; power system modeling; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Abstract : The high cost of grid extension to rural areas, often characterized by scattered communities with low load densities, requires the use of low cost electrification technologies to ensure economic viability. In Single Wire Earth Return (SWER) power distribution networks, the earth itself forms the current return path of the single phase system leading to significant cost savings on conductors, poles and poletop hardware compared to conventional systems. 2. 2. On Incentives affecting Risk and Asset Management of Power Distribution

    Author : Carl Johan Wallnerström; Rajeev Thottappillil; Patrik Hilber; Ulf Sandberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; asset management; correlation studies; incentives; investment planning; maintenance planning; power distribution; reliability analysis; risk management; statistical validation; tariff regulation; vulnerability analysis; weather states; Electric power engineering; Elkraftteknik; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik; Industrial engineering and economy; Industriell teknik och ekonomi;

    Abstract : The introduction of performance based tariff regulations along with higher media and political pressure have increased the need for well-performed risk and asset management applied to electric power distribution systems (DS), which is an infrastructure considered as a natural monopoly. Compared to other technical systems, DS have special characteristics which are important to consider. READ MORE

  3. 3. On Development Planning of Electricity Distribution Networks

    Author : Viktoria Neimane; KTH; []
    Keywords : Electric power systems; electricity distribution; planning; risk management; network optimization;

    Abstract : Future development of electric power systems must pursue anumber of different goals. The power system should beeconomically efficient, it should provide reliable energysupply and should not damage the environment. At the same time,operation and development of the system is influenced by avariety of uncertain and random factors. READ MORE

  4. 4. The “Dark Side” of Marine Spatial Planning : A study of domination, empowerment and freedom through theories of discourse and power

    Author : Ralph Voma Tafon; Michael Gilek; Fred P. Saunders; Wesley Flannery; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine spatial planning; discourse; power; domination; empowerment; freedom; conflict; resistance; small-scale fisheries; offshore wind energy; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier; Östersjö- och Östeuropaforskning; Baltic and East European studies;

    Abstract : This thesis aims to contribute to the marine spatial planning (MSP) literature by elaborating a robust theoretical account of power for a more rigorous and balanced critical analysis of MSP. Conceived as a problem-solving regime, MSP has emerged as a radical approach to govern the use and protection of marine resources. READ MORE

  5. 5. Security of Electricity Supply in Power Distribution System : Optimization Algorithms for Reliability Centered Distribution System Planning

    Author : Sanja Duvnjak Zarkovic; Patrik Hilber; Ebrahim Shayesteh; George Anders; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The importance of electricity in everyday life and demands to improve the reliability of distribution systems force utilities to operate and plan their networks in a more secure and economical manner. With higher demands on reliability from both customers and regulators, a big pressure has been put on the security of electricity supply which is considered as a fundamental requirement for modern societies.
