1. Reduction of refining energy during mechanical pulping : using pressurised chip compression and sulphite pre-treatment
Abstract : The effects of pressurised compressive chip pre-treatment and low dosage sulphite pre-treatment were evaluated for production of thermomechanical pulp in mill scale trials using Norway spruce (Picea abies) at the Braviken paper mill (Holmen Paper AB, Sweden). The general aim of the study was to improve the energy efficiency during the production of mechanical pulps suitable for news and improved news grade papers. READ MORE

2. Enhancing Composite Cassava Bread Quality - Effect of cassava pre-treatment and baking improvers
Abstract : Due to unfavourable climatic conditions, the production of wheat in Mozambique is not sufficient to satisfy national food industrial needs and substantial quantities must be imported at high cost. Bread is currently produced basically using wheat flour. READ MORE

3. Pre-treatment of substrates for anaerobic digestion : potential and development needs
Abstract : Substrate pre-treatment has been gaining interest in anaerobic digestion (AD) as a means to increase biogas yields with nowadays more diversified substrate sources. The objective of this thesis is to identify improvement potentials and development needs within applications of substrate pretreatment in anaerobic digestion (AD) based on literature and specific examples, with special focus on the impact assessment and exemplified by the case of electroporation(EP) pre-treatment. 4. Industrially Pre-Treated Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) Served in Large-Scale Food Service Systems
Abstract : In Swedish schools, a warm lunch is served every day. The lunch is prepared in a largescale food service system and includes steam-cooked potatoes several times per week. The potatoes are often industrially pre-treated to facilitate the handling and logistics required to cook hundreds of meals in a couple of hours. READ MORE

5. Improving physical flows in biomass-to-energy supply chains by means of pre-treatment technology and coordination
Abstract : AbstractThe transition from fossil fuel to renewable energy sources such as biomass-to-energy (B2E) is an environmentally sustainable pathway. However, increased use of biomass is hampered by the high costs of logistics activities within the physical flow. READ MORE
