  1. 1. The burden of stroke in Sweden : studies on costs and quality of life based on Riks-Stroke, the Swedish stroke register

    Author : Ola Ghatnekar; Eva-Lotta Glader; Kjell Asplund; Ulf Persson; Ingvar Karlberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Stroke; atrial fibrillation; cost of illness; utility; mapping; Sweden; hälso- och sjukvårdsforskning; health services research;

    Abstract : The costs for stroke management and reduced health related quality of life (QoL) can extend throughout life as mental and physical disabilities are common. The aim of this thesis was to quantify this stroke-related burden with data from Riks-Stroke (RS), the Swedish stroke register. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rye bread in Sweden : Health-related and sensory qualities, consumer perceptions and consumption patterns

    Author : Pernilla Sandvik; Margaretha Nydahl; Iwona Kihlberg; Ingela Marklinder; Hely Tuorila; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; national dietary survey; sensory analysis; preference mapping; sourdough; whole grain; public health; health promotion; Kostvetenskap; Food; Nutrition and Dietetics;

    Abstract : Rye bread has shown potential as a health-beneficial component in the diet, especially in relation to non-communicable diseases. To have a beneficial effect in reality, however, it also needs to be available, chosen and eaten. Less research has focused on rye bread from a consumer perspective. READ MORE

  3. 3. Functional mapping of somatosensory cortices in the human brain

    Author : Anna S K Bodegård; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Sornatosensory areas; PET; cytoarchitectonic mapping; postcentral gyrus; shape perception; active touch; passive touch;

    Abstract : Tactile perception is a remarkable ability that enables us to recognise objects and handle tools. Cortical processing during tactile and shape perception in humans is not fully understood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Single-cell methodologies for ecological and metabolic mapping of mixotrophic microeukaryotes

    Author : Javier Florenza; Stefan Bertilsson; Alexandra Z. Worden; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mixotrophy; single-cell;

    Abstract : Mixotrophy in aquatic protists is pivotal for our understanding of aquatic microbial food web dynamics. This thesis is centered around aquatic unicellular mixotrophs, and comprises three methodological approaches aimed to tackle mixotroph ecology at single-cell resolution: the identification of actively feeding mixotrophs in natural samples, the determination of specific interactions among mixotrophs and bacterial prey, and the profiling of two distinct mixotrophic populations based on the gene expression of their constitutive individuals. 5. 5. Linking biodiversity and recreational merits of urban green spaces : methodological development

    Author : Qiu Ling; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Urban green spaces play an important role in promoting both biodiversity and human recreation. This thesis therefore attempted to link biodiversity and recreational values of urban green spaces through an interdisciplinary research of trade-offs and synergies between biodiversity conservation and human recreation.
