  1. 1. Presynaptic mechanisms in L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia

    Author : Hanna Lindgren; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; angiogenesis; dyskinesia; 5-HT; DA; Parkinson s disease; 6-OHDA; microdialysis;

    Abstract : This study has investigated the impact of presynaptic factors on the development of dyskinesia during chronic L-DOPA treatment in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease (PD). The mechanisms causing dyskinesia are not completely understood but have been proposed to involve changes in gene and protein expression in striatal neurons, which are the main target of dopamine (DA) projections from the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). 2. 2. On spinal mechanisms for reflex control in man : modulation of Ia-afferent excitation with changes in muscle length, activation level and fatigue

    Author : Maria M. Nordlund; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Electromyography; eccentric; concentric; presynaptic inhibition; H-reflex; central fatigue; twitch interpolation; muscle spindle; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology; Electromyography; eccentric; concentric; presynaptic inhibition; H-reflex; central fatigue; twitch interpolation; muscle spindle;

    Abstract : To control muscle force, neural activation has to take alterations in muscle mechanics into account. This thesis assesses modulations in excitatory efficacy of Ia-afferents during muscle length changes at different levels of voluntary activation and during fatigue. READ MORE

  3. 3. Experimental studies of spinal mechanisms associated with muscle fatigue

    Author : Ivana Kalezic; Vito Enrico Pettorossi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : muscle fatigue; monosynaptic reflex; presynaptic inhibition; recurrent inhibition; fusimotor system; Fos-immunoreactivity; referral pain; kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Muscle fatigue is ubiquitous in every day life.Muscle fatigue might be considered as an altered state of motor behaviour, which impairs motor performance. By contrast, muscle fatigue could also be considered a positive phenomenon, which protects muscle tissue from damage that might be incurred to it by overuse. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular mechanisms in synaptic vesicle recycling

    Author : Joel Jakobsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Neurons communicate through specialized contacts called synapses, which consist of pre- and postsynaptic compartments separated by a narrow synaptic cleft. The stimulus- dependent rapid influx of calcium ions into the presynaptic compartment induces fusion of neurotransmitter-filled vesicles with the plasma membrane and release of their content into the synaptic cleft. 5. 5. Mechanisms underlying sustained synaptic release of glutamate

    Author : Oleg Shupliakov; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : synaptic transmission; synaptic vesicle proteins; synapsin; glutamate; glutamine; glutamate uptake; glia; spinal cord; hippocampus; neuromuscular junction; lamprey; crayfish; mouse.;

    Abstract : Fast communication between neurons in the brain is mediated mainly by amino acid transmitters, such as glutamate, GABA and glycine. These transmitters are stored in small synaptic vesicles which undergo exocytosis at synaptic release sites (active zones) in response to action potentials. READ MORE
