  2. 2. Uterus transplantation: An experimental study in primates

    Author : Liza Johannesson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; infertility; transplantation; nonhuman primates; uterus; human; immunosuppression;

    Abstract : Most causes of infertility are nowadays treatable, but for women that are infertile due to lack of, or severe malfunction of the uterus, there is as of today no available cure. Uterus transplantation (UTx) may provide a future possibility for treatment of these females with uterine factor infertility (UFI). READ MORE

  3. 3. Haemoprotozoan Parasites of Non-Human Primates in Kenya : Studies on Prevalence and Characterization of Haemoprotozoan Parasites of Wild-Caught Baboons, African Green Monkeys and Syke's Monkeys

    Abstract : This thesis reports on cross-sectional surveys aimed at detecting and characterizing haemoprotozoan parasites infecting wild free-ranging non human primates (NHPs) in Kenya, East Africa. Blood samples from olive baboons (Papio cynocephalus anubis), vervet monkeys or African green monkeys (AGMs, Chlorocebus aethiops) and Syke's monkeys (Cercopithecus mitis) from five provinces of Kenya were analyzed. 4. 4. Consequences of bushmeat hunting in tropical forests

    Author : Edu Efiom; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tropical rainforests; bushmeat hunting; primates; seedling recruitment; interseedling competition; community composition; functional traits; ecosystem services; human livelihoods;

    Abstract : This thesis evaluates the effect of bushmeat hunting in southeastern Nigerian rainforests on: 1) adult tree, seedling, and animal community compositions 2) germination and survival among seedlings in association with competition 3) changes in community composition at multiple trophic levels 4) leaf nitrogen concentration (LNC), leaf mass per area (LMA) and stem specific density (SSD) 5) on human reliance on forest resources and rural people use forest resources. Data for the first four evaluations were obtained from surveys, manipulative experiments in seedling plots and collected leaf samples in three pairs of sites with high (hunted sites) and low (protected sites) hunting pressure but with similar adult tree composition. 5. 5. The Relation between Serotonergic Biomarkers and Behaviour : – studies on human primates, non-human primates and transgenic mice

    Author : Hanna-Linn Wargelius; Dan Larhammar; Lars Oreland; Claudia Fahlke; Elias Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Serotonin; MAO-A; 5-HTT; MAO-B; alcohol; ADHD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Abstract : Rationale: The serotonergic system is involved in the modulation of emotion and plays an important role for personality and vulnerability for psychiatric disorders. In the papers included in this thesis, we investigate three biological factors that have been studied in relation to psychiatric symptoms: Platelet monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activity, and variations in the MAO-A and the serotonin transporter (5HTT) genes.
