  1. 1. A Design Process Based on Visualization

    Author : Anders Wikström; Mats Jackson; Sofia Ritzén; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : Innovation and Design; innovation och design;

    Abstract : The global market of today is tough and the competition between companies demands new ways of developing products and services. The current challenge for the design research community is to provide designers with a wider range of methods and tools to support specific activities within the design process and to improve its overall coordination. 2. 2. Groundwater vulnerability assessment using process-based models

    Author : Riitta Lindström; Roger Thunvik; Pertti Vakkilainen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Database; Groundwater vulnerability; Hydrogeological environment; Process-based models; Penetration depth; Turnover time; Miljöteknik; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis is on groundwater vulnerability assessment by process-based simulation models and data acquisition for these assessments. A modelling system for intrinsic groundwater vulnerability assessment in water supply areas was developed, consisting of flow- and transport models for the unsaturated zone and the groundwater zone, coupled to a geographical informa-tion system. 3. 3. Entering the dynamic risk space : Assessing planetary boundary interactions through process-based quantifications

    Author : Arne Tobian; Johan Rockström; Sarah Cornell; Ingo Fetzer; Dieter Gerten; Martin Volk; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Planetary boundaries; climate change; land-use change; Earth system interactions; ecosystem modeling; green water; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Abstract : The planetary boundaries framework is an effort to define a safe operating space for humanity. Its rationale is that sustainable development needs to be achieved in ways that safeguard the stability of the Earth system on which human prosperity relies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Process-based modelling of N losses from terrestrial ecosystems

    Author : Josefine Nylinder; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Nitrogen (N) loss to atmosphere and ground water can contribute to environmental destruction, by N emission as the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N2O) and by leaching of N to contamination and eutrophication of water. Dynamic models are important keys to increase the knowledge of ecosystems N processes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Impacts of Regional Climate Change on Swedish Forests: An Evaluation Using Process-based Regional Ecosystem Modelling Approach

    Author : Deniz Koca; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysisk geografi; Geologi; Geology; physical geography; Sweden; forest management; diversity; carbon sequestration; net primary productivity; regional climate change; process-based regional ecosystem modelling;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to provide a representative estimate of the potential impacts of climate change and increased atmospheric CO2 concentrations on Swedish forest ecosystems and the key ecosystem services they provide. In order to achieve this task, fi rst LPJ-GUESS, a process-based regional ecosystem modelling framework, was applied to explore how possible shifts in climatic zones according to a range of regional climate scenarios may lead to changes in the tree species distribution and composition, net primary productivity (NPP) and carbon sequestration capacity of potential natural ecosystems on species level and at the regional scale.
