  1. 21. Polymorphic protein aggregation in tauopathies

    Author : Alexander Sandberg; Per Hammarström; Sofie Nyström; Wei-Feng Xue; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease(s) comprises one of the most common and costly neurodegenerative diseases. With a larger population and an increasing life expectancy, amyloid diseases (with age as one of the most prominent risk factors) will generate an even larger burden on healthcare. READ MORE

  2. 22. Hypoxia inducible factor-1α in renal cell carcinoma

    Author : Anders Lidgren; Börje Ljungberg; Torgny Rasmuson; Kjell Grankvist; Anders Bergh; Per-Uno Malmström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; renal cell carcinoma; hypoxia; RT-PCR; angiogenesis; western blot; tissue microarray; protein; mRNA; HIF-1 alpha; GLUT-1; survival; Urology and andrology; Urologi och andrologi;

    Abstract : Hypoxia Inducible Factor-1α in Renal Cell Carcinoma Departments of Surgical and Perioperative Sciences, Urology and Andrology; Radiation Sciences, Oncology; Medical Biosciences, Pathology; and Medical Biosciences, Clinical Chemistry, Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden Background: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for approximately 2-3% of all human cancers. A distinguished feature of RCC is vascularisation and among the three dominating RCC types conventional RCC (cRCC) generally is more vascularised than papillary RCC (pRCC) and chromophobe RCC (chRCC). 3. 23. Silicon Nanopore Arrays : Fabrication and Applications for DNA Sensing

    Author : Miao Zhang; Jan Linnros; Meni Wanunu; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; nanopore; array; electrochemical etching; DNA; optics; thermophoresis;

    Abstract : Nanopore biomolecule sensing and sequencing has emerged as a simple but powerful tool for single molecule studies over the past two decades. By elec- trophoretically driving single molecules through a nanometer-sized pore, often sitting in an insulating membrane that separates two buffer solutions, ionic current blockades can be detected to reveal rich information of the molecules, such as DNA length, protein size and conformation, even nucleic acid se- quence. 4. 24. Mechanisms of transendothelial and tissue transport in the peritoneum. Experimental studies on rat

    Author : Bert-Inge Rosengren; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nefrologi; Urologi; hyaluronan; interstitium; blood flow; rat; pore; inhibition; temperature; peritoneal dialysis; permeability; capillary; protein; passive; active; transport; transcytosis; vesicle; Urology; nephrology; small solute;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells. 5. 25. Genomic characterization of ETV6/RUNX1-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    Author : Henrik Lilljebjörn; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SNP array; array CGH; ETV6 RUNX1-positive ALL; childhood ALL; exome sequencing;

    Abstract : The t(12;21) translocation generates the ETV6/RUNX1 fusion gene, present in 25% of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This fusion gene is important for leukemia development but is not sufficient for leukemia to arise. READ MORE
