    Abstract : Chronic pain affects 20 % of the global population, causes suffering, is difficult to treat, and constitutes a large economic burden for society. So far, the characterization of molecular mechanisms of chronic pain-like behaviors in animal models has not translated into effective treatments. READ MORE

  2. 2. Polymorphic protein aggregation in tauopathies

    Author : Alexander Sandberg; Per Hammarström; Sofie Nyström; Wei-Feng Xue; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Alzheimer’s disease(s) comprises one of the most common and costly neurodegenerative diseases. With a larger population and an increasing life expectancy, amyloid diseases (with age as one of the most prominent risk factors) will generate an even larger burden on healthcare. READ MORE

  3. 3. Physiological Engineering of Xylose Utilisation by Recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Nina Quednau Meinander; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein burden; physiology; fed-batch fermentation; chemostat; recombinant Saccharomyces cerevisiae; ethanol; xylose; xylitol; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Xylitol production by recombinant, XYL1-expressing Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated in fed-batch fermentation using different cosubstrates for growth, and generation of reduced cofactors and maintenance energy. Xylose was converted into xylitol with 1:1 yield. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of C-reactive protein in percutaneous coronary intervention

    Author : Nawsad Saleh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : C-reactive protein; Duett sealing device; FemoStop; interleukin-6; pathogen burden; percutaneous coronary intervention; prognosis; myocardial infarction; serum amyloid A; troponin T.; C-reactive protein;

    Abstract : An elevated preprocedural plasma or serum C-reactive protein (CRP) level in patients undergoing percutanous coronary intervention (PCI) is associated with short-, intermediate- and long-term outcome. Furthermore, the procedure itself has been shown to provoke an inflammatory reaction as shown by increased plasma CRP levels after PCI. READ MORE

  5. 5. Impact of glucose feed rate on productivity and recombinant protein quality in Escherichia coli

    Author : Anna Maria Sandén; Gen Larsson; Gunnar Lidén; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Escherichia coli; recombinant protein production; fed-batch; feed profile; specific growth rate; Biokemi; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

    Abstract : The goal of this work was to contribute to the fed-batch process optimisation task by deriving parameters that have considerable impact on productivity as well as product quality The chosen parameters were I) the design of the glucose feed profile, II) the choice of induction strategy, with respect to the method of addition, and III) the time of the induction, with respect to the specific glucose consumption rate.The present fed-batch experiments using the lacUV5-promoter, for production of b-galactosidase, have shown that a high glucose feed rate gives a specific production rate, qp, that is twice as high, after induction, compared to a feed rate that is 2.
